The upcoming indie action title Ravenlok, which has been confirmed to launch day one on Xbox Game Pass, has finally received its release date. Ravenlok was first revealed at Xbox's 2022 Summer showcase as a game promised to release within the following twelve months, and it looks like it's just about to hit its target. From Cococucumber, the Toronto-based studio behind games like Riverbond and Echo Generation, Ravenlok is a third-person action-RPG set in an Alice in Wonderland-inspired fantasy world with a charming voxel art style. It seems like the studio's most ambitious project yet. Given Cococucumber's history with voxel games it wasn't surprising to see the colorful, blocky art style implemented again when the game was revealed, as the studio has cemented itself as a master of the style in the indie game space over the years. Ravenlok will join an abundance of day one releases coming to Xbox Game Pass subscribers in the next few weeks like The Last Case of Benedict Fox and Xbox's very own Minecraft Legends and Redfall.RELATED: Xbox Game Pass Update Adds Former PS5 Console ExclusiveCococucumber took to Twitter to announce Ravenlok's imminent May 4 release date. The fact that the indie title comes out just two days after Xbox's big first-party Redfall release may be concerning, however the two games are vastly different in scope, genre, and style and will likely attract different player bases.

Taking Cococucumber's past titles into account, Ravenlok seems to be combining elements of the studio's most well known games. Riverbond was an isometric action game and Echo Generation was a turn-based RPG. Both released in 2019 and 2021 respectively and with each one the voxel art style became more and more detailed. Now, Ravenlok sports the most intricate voxel-based character designs and environments Cococucumber has ever put on display, even blending in some non-voxel 3D assets. With this unique art style, Riverbond's action combat, and Echo Generation's RPG elements at play, Ravenlok is looking to be a treat for Game Pass subscribers next month.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers have had a bountiful 2023 so far. Big day one games like Tango Gameworks' Hi-Fi Rush, Team Ninja's Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, and Mundfish's Atomic Heart have graced the subscription service over the past few months. While it's been relatively light on indie games so far this year with so many blockbuster titles like Hogwarts Legacy and recently Resident Evil 4 owning the zeitgeist, gamers will see a steady flow of new indie games start piling up once again in the coming months, and Ravenlok will help lead the charge on Game Pass.

Ravenlok is coming on May 4 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
