Highlights

  • Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus are both offering the highly acclaimed game Resident Evil 2 Remake in their January 2024 line-ups.
  • Resident Evil 2 Remake is considered one of the greatest remakes of all time and is a must-play for fans of survival horror games.
  • Both Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus have other impressive titles in their January line-ups, making it an exciting month for subscribers of both services.

2023 was a pretty great year for gaming subscription services, at least for the most part. While PlayStation Plus did see a major price hike for all of its tiers - which caused some serious backlash - the dust seems to have settled a little, and PS Plus has really been going out of its way to try and prove the service's worth in the last few months. Xbox Game Pass has been no different, essentially firing on all cylinders since September of last year and refusing to slow down anytime soon.

When it comes to their monthly additions, Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus tend to go their own separate ways. While Game Pass usually thrives on getting a lot of day-one Indie releases, PS Plus seems a little more focused on bringing over the biggest AAA releases of the last few years. However, that doesn't mean that the two gaming subscription services have never crossed paths before. There have been several occasions over the last few years where Game Pass and PS Plus have shared one or two titles in the same month, and January 2024 is just the latest instance of that.

2023 was one of the best years for Xbox Game Pass, and based just on its current line-up, 2024 could easily be another great year for the service.

Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus Share A Great Title This January

On January 16 2024, Resident Evil 2 Remake will be coming to both Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus' Extra tier simultaneously. First released in 2019, Resident Evil 2 Remake is turning five years old in just two weeks' time, and there's no better celebration than ensuring it gets into the hands of anyone who hasn't played it yet, and it's more than worth the download.

Widely considered to be one of, if not the greatest remake of all time, Resident Evil 2 Remake sees players take control of franchise icons Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, a pair of characters tasked with surviving the Raccoon City Outbreak at all costs. Replacing the original's top-down perspective and tank controls for a third-person, over-the-shoulder angle, Resident Evil 2 Remake is faithful in all the right ways, while also being unafraid to modernize the elements that really needed it, culminating in one of the best survival horror games ever made, and one that absolutely holds up all these years later.

Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus Have An Impressive January 2024 Line-Up

But Resident Evil 2 Remake is just one standout entry in two surprisingly stacked January 2024 line-ups. This January, Xbox Game Pass has also received Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Hell Let Loose, and We Happy Few, and is set to receive anticipated titles like Turnip Boy Robs a Bank and Palworld. Meanwhile, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is headlining PlayStation Plus' Extra tier this January, right alongside Hardspace: Shipbreaker, LEGO City Undercover, Just Cause 3, and Session: Skate Sim, among a few others, making it an exciting month for both Xbox and PlayStation owners.

Of course, those with PlayStation Plus Premium also get a handful of retro titles, with January 2024 offering some surprisingly great titles. Star Wars fans are in real luck, as Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace is getting ported to PS4 and PS5 this month via PS Plus Premium. Both Legend of Mana and Secret of Mana will also be available on PS Plus Premium this month, along with Street Fighter: 30th Anniversary Collection, which collects all three original Street Fighter titles and the Street Fighter Alpha series.
