As of today, Xbox Game Pass subscribers are free to try Ghostwire: Tokyo with their subscription. Ghostwire: Tokyo was developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda. Even though the game was launched after Microsoft finalized its acquisition of Bethesda, though, Ghostwire: Tokyo was actually a timed PlayStation 5 console exclusive for the first year of its existence.

Prior to Microsoft acquiring Bethesda, the Elder Scrolls and Fallout publisher signed some exclusivity agreements with PlayStation. These exclusivity agreements were honored even after the acquisition was complete, meaning Bethesda-published games like Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo were exclusive to PlayStation consoles for an entire year after their release. Ghostwire: Tokyo's PS5 exclusivity window just came up, and so it's now making its way to Xbox via Xbox Game Pass.

One of the main benefits of being signed up for an Xbox Game Pass subscription is the ability to play first-party games on the very day that they release. While Ghostwire: Tokyo was previously released for PS5, this marks its debut on Xbox, and so it could still be considered a day one game. The catch is that Ghostwire: Tokyo is a next-gen only game, meaning those still playing on Xbox One that have yet to upgrade will need to get an Xbox Series X or S console to play it.

Ghostwire: Tokyo earned mostly positive reviews when it first released last year, and those playing on Xbox should be able to expect a similar experience. However, the Xbox version of Ghostwire: Tokyo is coming with some added bells and whistles via the Spider's Thread update, which includes new locations, quests, enemies, skills, a roguelike mode, a Photo Mode, and much more. This update is available to across all platforms, so even PlayStation gamers that have already played Ghostwire: Tokyo may want to give it another look.

It's worth pointing out that Ghostwire: Tokyo is readily available on PS Plus Extra as well as Xbox Game Pass. This should make it so that PlayStation and Xbox gamers alike have easy access to the game and the new content that it added with the latest update.

2023 has been a busy year for Tango Gameworks on Xbox Game Pass so far. Besides the recently-added Ghostwire: Tokyo, Tango kicked off the year by shadow dropping Hi-Fi Rush as a day one Game Pass game. Hi-Fi Rush earned rave reviews from critics at launch, and is in fact one of the highest-rated new game releases of the year so far.
