December is set to be a big month for Xbox Game Pass, and Microsoft is getting things started off with a bang. As of December 2, Microsoft has added a whopping eight new games to the Xbox Game Pass lineup, including day one releases as well as highly-anticipated additions of classic games. The new Xbox Game Pass games for December 2 even include a surprise bonus game for subscribers to check out as well.

When Microsoft revealed the new Xbox Game Pass games coming on December 2, it only mentioned seven of the games it actually added. The odd one out is Townscraper, a game where players are tasked with building towns. The developers describe Townscraper as "more of a toy than a game," and it's making its Xbox Game Pass debut just a couple of days after it launched. Any Xbox Game Pass subscribers interested in checking it out can do so across cloud, console, and PC.

While Townscraper is a surprise bonus game for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, the other titles were announced in advance. Some of the more notable additions include Final Fantasy 13-2 and Lawn Mowing Simulator. The former is a main series entry in the blockbuster Final Fantasy franchise, while the latter is a bizarre simulation game about lawn mowing that, despite its strange premise, has dedicated a following of devoted fans.

The headlining new Xbox Game Pass game added on December 2 is easily Stardew Valley, however. Stardew Valley is one of the highest-rated video games of all time, earning rave reviews at the time of its release and maintaining a massive following of dedicated players. Stardew Valley coming to Xbox Game Pass should ensure that many more people discover the game for themselves, which should boost its popularity that much more.

Later in December, Xbox Game Pass subscribers have even more games to look forward to. December 7 will see the addition of Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator, while December 8 brings the long-awaited launch of Halo Infinite. One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 is coming to Xbox Game Pass on December 9, and December 14 will be marked by the Xbox Game Pass debuts of Among Us and Aliens: Fireteam Elite.

Microsoft hasn't revealed all of the new Xbox Game Pass games it's adding in the second half of December, but it has confirmed The Gunk as a day one Xbox Game Pass release. More information on the rest of the Xbox Game Pass December 2021 lineup should come in a couple of weeks time.
