Highlights

  • Hauntii and Galacticare are now available on Xbox Game Pass.
  • Following these arrivals, the number of day-one Xbox Game Pass releases in May 2024 has increased to four.
  • Galacticare is a wacky hospital management sim with a sci-fi twist, while Hauntii is an artsy hybrid of a twin-stick shooter and puzzler.

The Xbox Game Pass library has expanded to include Hauntii and Galacticare. Both of the newly debuted titles are day-one Xbox Game Pass releases.

While April 2024 has so far been the busiest month of the year in terms of new additions to Microsoft's subscription service, of which there were 17, that momentum didn't last. With only 12 confirmed Xbox Game Pass releases for May 2024, this month is shaping up to be the exact opposite. On the bright side for Microsoft's subscribers, one-third of this month's lineup consists of day-one releases.

What Is Hauntii?

Xbox Game Pass members who enjoy experimental experiences won't want to skip Hauntii, which is a textbook example of such an offering; the debut title from Moonloop Games mixes puzzle-solving with twin-stick shooter elements into what's promised to be a one-of-a-kind experience. It also stands out from the competition with its distinctive hand-drawn visuals, although Moonloop says Hauntii's art style was chosen for purely practical reasons.

What is Galacticare?

Standing in stark contrast to Hauntii's gameplay formula is Galacticare, which is a management sim with a sci-fi twist. Specifically, this day-one Xbox Game Pass title tasks players with building, expanding, and managing an intergalactic hospital. Setting the game in outer space gave British studio Brightrock Games a wide creative license to come up with a bunch of wacky species and illnesses, on top of other elements that make Galacticare's setting unique. The technology that players have at their disposal is as futuristic as one would expect from a sci-fi management sim, with the game featuring everything from short-range teleporters and subspace portals to holographic doctors and robot surgeons. Aside from a story in which players can embark on a mission to save the galaxy, Galacticare also features a sandbox mode.

Three more titles will reach the XGP library by month's end: Moving Out 2, Humanity, and Lords of the Fallen. Xbox Game Pass is also losing six other games on May 31.
