Xbox Game Pass has a treat in store for gamers this Halloween. Members will be able to play an exciting new indie game on day one of its release, which is Tuesday 31st October. The game, titled Jusant, features an unusual premise, and centers on the protagonist scaling an incredibly large mountain. Developer Don't Nod has promised a calming experience with meditative vibes, which will see the player using a variety of tools and pathways to safely navigate their way up this huge rock formation. While climbing, players can enjoy a peaceful and atmospheric soundtrack while taking in the views accompanying the mountain's diverse biomes. Jusant is the latest example of Xbox Game Pass providing its subscribers with diverse new titles from day one.

2023 has had no shortage of great games released so far. From early-year titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and the Resident Evil 4 Remake to more recent releases such as Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder, it has truly been a stellar year so far. Among these household names, however, are some strong indie games also determined to make their mark. Soulslikes such as Lies of P and Blasphemous 2 have provided proof that Dark Souls' well-established formula can successfully be replicated by developers other than FromSoftware. Jusant is the latest indie game to join Game Pass, and early previews of the game have been hugely positive.

Jusant Could Prove to Be Another Huge Hit For Xbox Game Pass

Xbox Game Pass had been having a rather mixed year up until September, with some lackluster months dampening some of its momentum. The release of Starfield, backed up by other releases like Lies of P and Payday 3, significantly improved the strength of the subscription service's offering, and has gone some way to alleviate any doubts about the quality of the service's library. Jusant immediately caught attention when it was unveiled at Xbox's June Showcase earlier this year thanks to a striking art style and atmosphere, and it provides a change of pace that will surely be welcomed by gamers who seek something a little different.

Jusant is described as an action-puzzle climbing game. While none of these elements alone are anything new, they combine here in what seems like a pretty unique concept. Huge PlayStation titles such as Uncharted 4 and the Horizon franchise allow players to skillfully free-climb hazardous terrain as part of their respective traversal mechanics, but making climbing the main aspect of the experience is something rarely seen before.

While high-octane action games seem to be in demand at the moment, there's no doubt that playing game after game at this pace can see some players experience a degree of burnout. Jusant may well provide the perfect remedy for this, allowing players to take their foot off the pedal and relax a little, with no bad guys to shoot or evil to vanquish, instead just being able to fully immerse themselves in the environment.

Despite the change of pace, the game should provide ample levels of challenge in different ways, with various tools to use on the climb, a stamina meter to keep an eye on, and several paths to unlock providing players with enough incentive to explore the mountain. Once Jusant joins the platform on the last day of this month, Xbox Game Pass looks set to feature more key releases in November continuing its strong finish to the year, including Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, and Persona 5 Tactica.

Jusant is set to be released on October 31, 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
