Highlights

  • Xbox Game Pass is losing six games today, including Black Desert and Surgeon Simulator 2.
  • Subscribers still have time to play these games before they're removed, and can purchase them at a 20% discount while they're still on the service.
  • Although it's disappointing to see these games go, Xbox Game Pass will have a big lineup in September, including highly anticipated releases like Starfield and Payday 3.

Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass subscription service is losing six games after today. Xbox Game Pass subscribers know by now that the last day of every month is always bitter-sweet. It means that there are new Xbox Game Pass games set to be revealed soon, but it also means that some games will be leaving the subscription service.

Some games leave Xbox Game Pass on different days, but for the most part, games are removed from the service on the same two days every month. The first wave of Xbox Game Pass removals happens on the 15th of the month, and the next batch of games are removed on the last day of the month. This pattern has held true for August 2023, with today being the last day that Xbox Game Pass subscribers can check out six specific games before they're removed from the library.

August 31 is the last day that Xbox Game Pass subscribers can play Black Desert, Commandos 3 - HD Remaster, Immortality, Nuclear Throne, Surgeon Simulator 2, and Tinykin through their subscription. Black Desert, notably, is actually jumping ship to Xbox Game Pass's competitor, PS Plus. It was recently confirmed by Sony that Black Desert is one of the free PS Plus games for September 2023.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers have some time still to try these games before they're removed, and if they happen to like any of them, they can be picked up at a 20% discount while they're still on the service. Out of these, the highest-rated game is Immortality, a unique experience that should really be played with as little information about what it's about as possible. Nuclear Throne has also earned strong reviews, as has Tinykin, which plays sort of like a 3D platformer take on Pikmin.

It's definitely disappointing to see these games removed from the Xbox Game Pass lineup, but it's not all bad news for subscribers. September 2023 is set to be one of the biggest months in Xbox Game Pass history, with big day one games like Starfield, Lies of P, and Payday 3 on the way. There will definitely be some games removed from Xbox Game Pass in September as well, but the new additions should more than make up for them. Fans can expect Microsoft to share more information about its Xbox Game Pass September 2023 plans at some point early next week.
