Highlights

  • Xbox Game Pass removes games every couple of weeks.
  • April 15 sees horror games Amnesia, Back 4 Blood, Soma and more leaving Game Pass.
  • Luckily, there will still be plenty of other horror games to play on Game Pass.

Xbox Game Pass has confirmed all the games leaving the service on April 15, and unfortunately for fans of the genre, multiple horror games are on the chopping block. Games are removed from Xbox Game Pass every couple of weeks or so, with the departure announcements often coupled with the Wave 1 and Wave 2 new addition reveals to help soften the blow for subscribers.

Xbox Game Pass removals often come on the last day of every month and the 15th of every month, with some rare exceptions to the rule. The vast majority of the time, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can expect the 15th, 30th, or 31st to be the last day that they will be able to play some of the service's games through their subscription.

Xbox Game Pass Confirms 7 More Games Coming in April 2024

Microsoft pulls the curtain back on its plans for the new Xbox Game Pass games coming to the service in the first half of April 2024.

As expected, April 15 is the last day that Xbox Game Pass subscribers will have access to some of the service's currently-available games, with the horror genre hit particularly hard. After April 15, Amnesia Collection, Amnesia: Rebirth, Back 4 Blood, Phantom Abyss, Research and Destroy, and Soma are all leaving the Xbox Game Pass service. Phantom Abyss is a 3D platformer inspired by Indiana Jones, but the rest of the games are either full-blown horror or at least horror-adjacent.

Xbox Game Pass Games Leaving April 2024

For example, Amnesia Collection features the original Amnesia: The Dark Descent game, often pointed to as one of the best and most influential horror games of all time. The same collection also includes the Justine expansion and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs. Amnesia: Rebirth is a sequel to those games, whereas Back 4 Blood is a first-person shooter co-op horror game that is meant to be a spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead.

Research and Destroy, meanwhile, is a co-op turn-based game that features zombies and other supernatural creatures, though it goes for a more comedic vibe than actual horror. And finally, Soma is a sci-fi horror game by the same team that made the Amnesia games, and like its predecessors, it is also pointed to as one of the better horror games of its generation.

All things considered, April 15 is going to be a particularly sad day for horror game fans on Xbox Game Pass, though there will still be plenty of genre representatives to check out even with these departures. The latest Amnesia game, Amnesia: The Bunker, will remain on Xbox Game Pass after April 15, plus the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes were added just recently, alongside The Quarry. So, even though multiple horror games are about to get the boot, fans of the genre still have a lot of reasons to stay subscribed.
