Xbox Game Pass is losing six games at the end of May 2024. The newly announced wave of departures features a varied mixture of genres, and will lead to Xbox Game Pass losing some acclaimed indies such as Little Witch in the Woods.
Microsoft's subscription service lost six games in January, followed by another four in February 2024. It then removed half a dozen titles in March, while 12 more games left its library the following month in a big blow to horror fans with an Xbox Game Pass membership.
Xbox Game Pass Adds Memorable Adventure Classic to Its Catalog of Games Today
Microsoft’s gaming subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, adds a memorable narrative adventure title that is considered a classic by many.
Xbox Game Pass is now set to lose one of its highest-rated titles, Norco, on May 15, along with seven other games. Ahead of that catalog rotation, Microsoft has announced the second wave of this month's outgoings, which is scheduled for May 31. That day will see the service lose Chicory: A Colorful Tale, Farworld Pioneers, Railway Empire 2, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R, Little Witch in the Woods, and Pac-Man Museum Plus. The former trio has been part of the Xbox Game Pass library since May 2023, thus being set to have a typical year-long stint on the service.
Xbox Game Pass Games Leaving May 31
Game | Genre | Platform(s) | Added | How Long To Beat |
---|---|---|---|---|
Chicory: A Colorful Tale | Adventure | Cloud, Console, PC | May 2023 | 9–20 hours |
Farworld Pioneers | Sandbox | 6–8 hours (achievements only) | ||
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R | Fighting | January 2023 | 8–35 hours | |
Little Witch in the Woods | Life Sim | May 2022 | 8–12 hours | |
Pac-Man Museum Plus | Arcade | 2–61 hours | ||
Railway Empire 2 | Management Sim | May 2023 | 46–195 hours |
Bandai Namco's JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure fighting game had a slightly longer run, which started in January 2023. Meanwhile, Little Witch in the Woods and Pac-Man Museum Plus are now both confirmed to be leaving the service following two-year stints. Achievement hunters with Xbox Game Pass subscriptions could feasibly obtain all of the available Gamerscore points in any one of these outgoing titles before they leave Microsoft's content library. But doing so with more than a few of them is going to be difficult, especially if they are adamant to play through Railway Empire 2, which is as content-packed as management sims often are.
Xbox Game Pass May Lose More Games Than It Adds in May 2024
As per usual, Microsoft has detailed this latest lineup of departures along with a list of new titles that are set to reach its subscription service over the course of the following two weeks. But with the second wave of May 2024 Xbox Game Pass additions featuring just nine titles, this month is turning out to be a small net loss for its content catalog.
Not accounting for NHL 24, which technically rolled out in April and is only set to reach Xbox Cloud Gaming this month, May 2024 will see the service add only 12 games, while losing 14 others. At least assuming Microsoft doesn't have some surprise releases up its sleeve, which can never be ruled out.
