Highlights

  • Xbox Game Pass adds new games monthly, including both older titles and brand-new releases, making it a valuable subscription service.
  • Turnip Boy Robs a Bank and Go Mecha Ball are the two day one games confirmed for January 2024 so far.
  • While there are currently only two confirmed games for January 2024, more additions to Xbox Game Pass are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers currently have two games to look forward to in January 2024, with both titles hitting the service in the second half of the month. New Xbox Game Pass games are added to the lineup on a monthly basis. The new Xbox Game Pass games are often a mix of older titles and brand-new, day one releases, with the latter serving as the main selling point of Microsoft's subscription service.

Day one games mean that Xbox Game Pass essentially pays for itself if one plays enough of them. 2023 had many impressive day one games added to Xbox Game Pass, from acclaimed first-party games like Starfield and Forza Motorsport to well-received third-party releases like Lies of P. Time will tell how 2024 stacks up compared to 2023 for Xbox Game Pass, especially since most of next year's releases remain a mystery.

Xbox Game Pass Could Be Losing One of Its Biggest Games Soon

Xbox Game Pass might be losing one of its most popular games this month, according to a message that some Xbox users are receiving.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers will have to wait and see what the bulk of 2024 has in store in terms of day one releases, but in the meantime, they have a couple of games to look forward to in January. So far, two games have been confirmed for Xbox Game Pass in January 2024 with Turnip Boy Robs a Bank coming on January 18 and Go Mecha Ball joining the lineup on January 25. It's highly likely that these two games will be joined by other new Game Pass additions, but nothing else has actually been announced at the time of this writing.

New Xbox Game Pass Games for January 2024

  • Turnip Boy Robs a Bank - January 18
  • Go Mecha Ball - January 25

For those unfamiliar with the games, Turnip Boy Robs a Bank is the sequel to Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion, which has been compared to roguelike games and old-school Zelda titles. Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion spent a lot of time on Game Pass, so it makes sense that its sequel is joining the subscription service on day one. Turnip Boy Robs a Bank should be a similar experience, so fans of the first game should definitely keep the sequel on their radar.

Like Turnip Boy Robs a Bank, Go Mecha Ball also has roguelike elements. But whereas Turnip Boy is action-adventure game that takes inspiration from Zelda, Go Mecha Ball is a twin-stick shooter. To help it stand out even more, Go Mecha Ball features "pinball-style physics," which should make for an interesting twist on the genre.

Go Mecha Ball and Turnip Boy Robs a Bank are the only new Xbox Game Pass games for January 2024 that fans have to look forward to so far, but more should be announced in the coming weeks. In the meantime, Xbox Game Pass subscribers may want to prioritize some of the games leaving the service between now and January. Xbox Game Pass is losing at least two games on December 31, with Monster Train and Naraka Bladepoint - Deluxe Edition both expected to get the boot on that day. There have also been rumblings that Grand Theft Auto 5 is leaving Xbox Game Pass as well, but an official announcement has yet to be made.
