Highlights

  • The Resident Evil 3 remake is the third AAA game to join Xbox Game Pass in February 2024.
  • The remake of the 1999 cult-classic survival horror has received positive reviews for its graphics, controls, and action sequences.
  • Four more titles are confirmed to be coming to Xbox Game Pass before the end of the month, for a total of 9 February 2024 additions to the service.

The Xbox Game Pass catalog is about to expand to include the Resident Evil 3 remake. Apart from adding to the selection of acclaimed survival horror games on the platform, this arrival also marks the third AAA game to reach Xbox Game Pass in February 2024.

The remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, first released in April 2020, may not have reached the heights of its 1999 cult-classic predecessor in terms of ratings, but it was still received rather well. Many critics hence praised Resident Evil 3 for its graphics and modernized controls, as well as some standout action pieces. Aside from boasting Metacritic Metascores ranging from 77 to 84, depending on the platform, the remake also has more than 52,500 "Very Positive" reviews on Steam as of early 2024, some four years since its release.

Acclaimed RPG's Xbox Game Pass Debut Seemingly Leaked by Microsoft

Microsoft shares and then retracts what appears to be a premature announcement of a critically acclaimed RPG coming to Xbox Game Pass.

Resident Evil 3 is now set to debut on Microsoft's gaming service as the fifth Xbox Game Pass addition in February 2024. As was the case with all the other franchise entries that were previously added to the Xbox subscription library, the RE3: Nemesis remake will be available to PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S users. Xbox Cloud Gaming support is also part of the package for those who have the Ultimate-tier membership. Or will be part of the package, to be precise, because the game still hasn't reached Xbox Game Pass as of this writing, circa 6:30am ET on February 13.

While the relatively short campaign length has been a fairly common complaint among the players of the first three Resident Evil remakes, Microsoft's subscribers may not feel as strongly about that issue. That's because the Resident Evil 3 remake is set to reach the service just one month after its predecessor. Releasing two franchise entries in quick succession, even if each is on the shorter side, could mitigate concerns over the length of their respective stories. That fact was not lost on some gamers who had already praised the move as a major precedent for Microsoft's content strategy, hoping it would set a new release pattern for Xbox Game Pass.

Resident Evil 3 still hasn't appeared on Game Pass as of February 13, circa 6:30am ET, but is scheduled to reach the service later today.

Resident Evil 3 is the third AAA game to reach the subscription service since the turn of the month, arriving shortly after Persona 3 Reload and Madden NFL 24 did the same, albeit the latter was only made available to PC Game Pass and Ultimate members. This week will also see the platform's library expand to include three more games: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, A Little To The Left, and PlateUp.

The final confirmed February addition to the service is Return to Grace, a story-driven adventure dealing with an ancient AI god, which is set to debut on February 20. Beyond that, Xbox Game Pass has already confirmed a couple of March 2024 arrivals.
