Xbox Game Pass is the gift that keeps on giving, with the service adding more than it takes away practically every month. These are often announced a couple of days ahead of time, if not a week or two. However, Xbox Game Pass will occasionally drop a surprise game too. So, while fans are likely excited to check out Halo Infinite’s campaign when it releases on Game Pass on December 8, the service has added a surprise game today, December 7.

This comes without much in the way of an announcement, but it doesn’t have too either. Xbox Game Pass has proven its ability to draw in fans and subscribers, getting various games the attention they deserve—even when not announced. Now, the latest game to shadow drop on Xbox Game Pass is a next-gen version of Serious Sam 4.

Serious Sam 4 comes from Croteam and Devolver Digital, putting players into the role of Sam “Serious” Stone and his squad as they face off with an alien invasion. It is a prequel to the past games and keeps that same franchise formula, if revamping a bunch of mechanics in the process. Serious Sam 4 received mixed reviews at launch, but perhaps this launch on new hardware will give it new life.

Previously, Serious Sam 4 was only available on PC and Stadia (due to an exclusivity deal), making today’s PS5 and Xbox Series X/S launch a real surprise. Specifically, though, it’s also a day one surprise launch for Xbox Game Pass, giving extra incentive to check it out on Xbox platforms and really putting the emphasis on day-one releases for the platform. There’s no listing for an Xbox One version, however.

Of course, Serious Sam 4 is just one of many games fans can enjoy on Xbox Game Pass in December because, as aforementioned, Halo Infinite’s campaign will release soon, and there’s plenty of more on the doc. Including Serious Sam 4, here’s every release still announced for this month.

  • Serious Sam 4 (December 7)
  • Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator (December 7)
  • Halo Infinite (December 8)
  • One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 (December 9)
  • Aliens: Fireteam Elite (December 14)
  • Among Us (December 14)
  • The Gunk (December 16)

More games will likely be revealed soon to follow The Gunk, and it seems like Game Pass is determined to end the year strong. With such offerings and additions every month, it’s no surprise that Game Pass makes one of the best Xbox holiday gifts.

Serious Sam 4 is available now for PC, PS5, Stadia, and Xbox Series X/S.
