Day one Xbox Game Pass game Frostpunk 2, originally slated to join the service on July 25, has been delayed to September 20. Prior to Frostpunk 2's release date delay, there were six games confirmed to be coming to Xbox Game Pass in July 2024 as day one releases.
Thanks to all the recent gaming showcases, July 2024 has been pretty fleshed out when it comes to day one Xbox Game Pass games. The full lineup of new Xbox Game Pass games coming in July 2024 have yet to be revealed, but subscribers can look forward to Flock on July 16, Magical Delicacy on July 16, Dungeons of Hinterberg on July 18, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn on July 18, and Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess on July 19. Unfortunately, Frostpunk 2 is no longer part of the Xbox Game Pass July 2024 lineup.
Xbox Game Pass Adds New Game with Positive Reviews
Subscribers to Xbox Game Pass get access to a new game which already gathers hundreds of positive reviews on Steam.
As announced on Twitter, Frostpunk 2's release date is being pushed from July 25 to September 20. This is apparently due to feedback from the Frostpunk 2 beta, which the developers want to implement to ensure that the game has a better chance of meeting fan expectations when it finally comes out. The release date delay will mean that there are "additional features" added to Frostpunk 2 on the day of its release, as opposed to fans having to wait for them to be added post-launch in a patch.

The Frostpunk 2 team highlighted three key points that will be addressed by the game's release date delay. The delay will allow "additions to the game mechanics" that will lead to smoother gameplay, including more hubs, more direct-use abilities, the ability to reshape districts after their construction, and faction behavior that better aligns with their lore. Secondly, Frostpunk 2 will be making "extensive UI and UX enhancements" so players don't have to struggle with the interface like some did in the beta. And finally, Frostpunk 2 is adding Zoom Stories, which allow players to zoom in and check in on the individual citizens living in their settlements.
Frostpunk 2's release date delay may be disappointing to fans who were looking forward to playing the game in July, but it sounds like it will be the best thing for the game in the long run. Its delay also makes September 2024 especially stacked for Xbox Game Pass. Besides Frostpunk 2, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can also look forward to playing Star Trucker on September 3, Age of Mythology: Retold on September 4, STALKER 2 on September 5, and Ara: History Untold on September 24.
