Day one Xbox Game Pass game Open Roads has been delayed from its previously-announced February 22 release date to Thursday, March 28. Day one games give the Xbox Game Pass subscription service incredible value, so it's always disappointing when one misses its planned release date.

There have been many instances over the years when a day one Xbox Game Pass game has been delayed. For instance, Halo Infinite was hit with a huge delay right before the Xbox Series X launch, and Bethesda's open world sci-fi RPG Starfield was delayed multiple times as well. Delays are an unfortunate reality of video game development, with Open Roads being the latest day one Game Pass game to have its release date pushed back.

Upcoming Square Enix Game Could Be Coming to Game Pass

A recently announced Square-Enix RPG could be seeing a Day 1 launch on Xbox Game Pass, according to a recent Xbox Store update.

Publisher Annapurna Interactive confirmed to Endgadget that day one Xbox Game Pass game Open Roads has been delayed from February 22 to March 28. The reason for the delay is to further polish the game before its launch. While Open Roads is a day one Xbox Game Pass game, it's worth noting that it's also set to be available on PC, PlayStation consoles, and the Nintendo Switch, so even those who don't have an Xbox handy will be able to experience it as well.

What is Day One Game Pass Game Open Roads?

Open Roads is an interactive movie game starring Keri Russell and Kaitlyn Dever as a mother-daughter duo taking a road trip. The game has a distinct look that blends a cartoon aesthetic with 3D animation. It was developed by the Open Roads Team, a group of developers formerly of Fullbright, the studio behind the indie hit Gone Home. Xbox Game Pass subscribers will find out if Open Roads lives up to the high bar set by Gone Home when the game hits Game Pass on March 28.

Open Roads being delayed leaves the Xbox Game Pass February 2024 lineup with a vacuum that needs to be filled, as there are now only three games confirmed for next month. Persona 3 Reload is coming on February 2, while Anuchard is set to join the lineup on February 6. PlateUp, meanwhile, is due for a February 15 Xbox Game Pass release.

These won't be the only new Xbox Game Pass games for February 2024, but the rest of the lineup has not been announced at the time of this writing. The most likely scenario is that Microsoft will pull the curtain back on more of the new Xbox Game Pass games for February 2024 on Tuesday, February 6, though that has yet to be confirmed.
