A new Xbox Game Pass release has been confirmed, as developer Jump Over The Age has announced that Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector is planned for the subscription service. The first Citizen Sleeper, a critically acclaimed narrative RPG, also was offered via Xbox Game Pass and built an impressive audience, as a result. Jump Over The Age is seeking to replicate that success with its in-development sequel, though Citizen Sleeper 2 does not have a release window yet.
Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector was announced in June as part of the PC Gaming Show. It was first revealed as a PC exclusive but has since been confirmed for Xbox. It wouldn't be a surprise if Citizen Sleeper 2 is eventually confirmed for PlayStation and Nintendo platforms, too. Players will return to the original Citizen Sleeper's setting of the Helion system but in the body of a new protagonist. Expect further changes, whether to combat or other gameplay systems, as Jump Over The Age seeks to build on some ambitious new ideas.
One thing that Citizen Sleeper 2 will share with its predecessor is its availability on Xbox Game Pass. A new trailer for Citizen Sleeper 2 was shared online on Thursday. Citizen Sleeper 2 will be coming to Xbox Game Pass with support for Xbox Series X/S, at the very least. More details will be shared as development continues.
Given Citizen Sleeper 2 is still deep in development, full details on the game's release plans have yet to be confirmed. For example, Citizen Sleeper is available on both PC and Xbox Game Pass, but Citizen Sleeper 2 has only been confirmed for Xbox Game Pass at this point. Further, only PC and Xbox Series X/S are confirmed platforms for Citizen Sleeper 2 at the moment. It's possible Xbox One support could be added at a later date.
Xbox Game Pass can be a great opportunity for indie developers worried whether their games will find an audience or not. Since there are only so many games released on Game Pass each month, each one gets attention from subscribers almost by default. In February 2023, it was confirmed Citizen Sleeper reached 500,000 players. That may not seem like a lot compared to AAA releases, but for a niche indie game like Citizen Sleeper, it's a great success. Citizen Sleeper 2 will be trying to build on that.
It may be some time before Citizen Sleeper 2 arrives. While there's been some talk of a 2024 release, that's not necessarily guaranteed. The Xbox Game Pass announcement for Citizen Sleeper 2 does, at least, notably say it's a day one release. There's still much to be clarified but also plenty for Citizen Sleeper fans to get excited about.
