Microsoft intends to hold another Xbox Developer Direct later this month, several sources have said, with one of them specifying that the event is supposedly planned to take place in mid-January. Their claims emerged online mere days ahead of the one-year anniversary of the original Xbox Developer Direct announcement.
Much like its name implied, the inaugural Xbox Developer Direct provided the fans with a behind-the-scenes look at a handful of titles that some of Microsoft's many studios had in the works around this time last year. Specifically, the show took place on January 25, 2023, with Microsoft opting to pair it with a dedicated The Elder Scrolls Online event that took place immediately afterward. The Xbox and Bethesda Developer Direct featured some half a dozen games in total, including Forza Motorsport, Minecraft Legends, and Starfield.
Xbox Game Pass Game Getting Full Release on January 25
A hectic Xbox Game Pass title that's been part of Microsoft's subscription service since late 2022 is finally leaving early access this month.
Taking to Reddit earlier today, user Zantorn asserted that another Xbox Developer Direct is planned to take place during the week of January 14. While the veracity of their claim remains unclear, the same person previously correctly predicted that the June 21 and September 14 Nintendo Directs were to take place during the weeks of June 18 and September 10, respectively. Their 2023 leaks used Sundays as week-start markers, meaning that their latest claim implies the next Xbox Developer Direct will be held sometime during the seven-day period ending January 20.
Reflecting on this newly emerged rumor, Insider Gaming reported that it also understands that a new Xbox event has been "scheduled to take place within the next couple of weeks." Assuming that is indeed the case, the upcoming broadcast will presumably be streamed via Twitch and YouTube, as was the case with last year's Xbox and Bethesda Developer Direct.

As to the contents of the rumored show, existing precedent implies that Microsoft's event may combine new trailers for some of its upcoming games with at least one surprise launch. In fact, one recent report from earlier this week indicated that's precisely what the company is planning, suggesting that fans can expect a January 2024 Xbox Developer Direct that will include another shadow drop in the vein of the 2023 rhythm action game Hi-Fi Rush.
The same source also said that Stoic Studio's survival game Towerborne and Ninja Theory's action adventure Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 are both poised to make an appearance at the upcoming show. Last year's Xbox Developer Direct had a 45-minute runtime, so its follow-up will plausibly be of similar length, regardless of when it ends up taking place.
