  • The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind was mistakenly listed for a jaw-dropping $1,279.99 on Xbox Games Store.
  • Despite dated graphics, Morrowind remains a pivotal fantasy RPG with rich lore and nearly endless roleplaying potential.
  • Luckily, the pricing bug has been fixed, and Morrowind is now available on Xbox Game Pass.

A surprised gamer has found The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind mistakenly listed for an astronomical price on the Xbox Games Store. While The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind is known for being one of the most influential fantasy games ever made, even Bethesda’s biggest fans would find it difficult to justify this monumental price tag.

Bethesda’s third numbered entry in The Elder Scrolls series revolutionized open-world gaming when it was released in 2002. The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind stunned gamers with its vast 3D world offering players never-before-seen freedom and endless roleplaying potential. Morrowind’s wealth of meticulously crafted lore and questlines still provide a treasure trove of content for Elder Scrolls fans, even if the game’s dated graphics and mechanics can prove initially challenging to modern players. While the passing decades have not treated it quite so kindly as its successors, Oblivion and Skyrim, Morrowind is still renowned as not only one of the best Elder Scrolls games but also one of the most significant fantasy RPGs of all time.

Despite Bethesda's Stance, The Elder Scrolls Has The Perfect Blueprint For a TV Show

Bethesda may not be interested in making an Elder Scrolls TV show right now, but it has the perfect blueprint for one just waiting in the wings.

However, one gamer looking to begin their adventure in Morrowind’s mystical wilds of Vvardenfell recently encountered an obstacle likely to deter all but the wealthiest adventurers - all before they had even booted up the game. Due to a technical issue, redditor OGKAT13 was surprised to find the 22-year-old game listed for an eye-watering $1,279.99 – reduced from the “full price” of $1,599.99. This $320.00 discount seems significantly less generous considering that the Game of the Year Edition, which comes bundled with the excellent Tribunal and Bloodmoon expansions, usually only costs around $14.99 and is often on sale for far less.

22-Year-Old Morrowind on Sale for Staggering Price

Luckily, any gamers wishing to pick up this piece of gaming history no longer need to take out a loan, as the bug now seems to have been resolved. Since Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda Softworks in 2021, The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind is also available on Xbox Game Pass, along with The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, and a host of other great RPGs.

Although a Morrowind remaster is well overdue as the classic game has sadly not received the Skyrim treatment, PC players have continuously worked to keep expanding Bethesda’s world far beyond its original conception. Some of the best Morrowind mods include complete overhauls of the game’s graphics and AI, while others take the player on grand adventures to familiar locations from other The Elder Scrolls games. Despite being over two decades old, Morrowind is still very much alive and well worth picking up in 2024 – although maybe not for $1,500.
