10 The Outer Worlds
Although Obsidian Entertainment is no longer an independent studio due to being purchased by Microsoft, The Outer Worlds were still the last indie game to be created by the company. With only support from themselves, this RPG set in space created an impressive world filled with corrupt corporations and dangerous aliens.
Players can only expect greater things from Obsidian Entertainment since joining Microsoft as this extra funding can only be expected to make even greater games with many players looking forward to The Outer Worlds 2.

Continuing the theme of sci-fi, The Ascent is another brilliant indie RPG that players who enjoy more action from their games will have a blast with. It has an incredible story that shares a similar theme to The Outer Worlds also as the entire city of The Ascent was owned by a company that has since disappeared.
With interesting gunplay and a vibrant neon world to discover, there is plenty for players to get stuck into when spending time in this interesting indie RPG that can even be enjoyed with others.
8 For The King
Combining tabletop RPG with roguelike elements makes For the King one of the most intriguing fantasy experiences players can enjoy on Xbox. With the recent murder of the King, the Queen has tasked the people of her kingdom with aiding in stopping the chaos that has taken over their realms through intense strategy.
Players can enjoy For the King alone or with the help of others through both local and online co-op. With a variety of ways to play this RPG and rogue-lite features in play, every adventure in this title will feel different for the player.
7 Chernobylite
Chernobylite takes place in the exclusion zone of Chernobyl after its nuclear meltdown that caused the facility to explode. Players control the character of Igor as he looks for his wife in the horrid aftermath of the explosion. However, he isn't alone as players will encounter plenty of other peculiar people that are testing their luck in the radioactive wasteland.
There's also a sci-fi twist to this survival RPG as players are also likely to encounter the vibrant green monsters that have somehow been summoned from the Chernobyl explosion.

With the popularity of tabletop gaming such as Dungeons and Dragons, many players have been looking for ways to replicate something similar through video games. A great example of this is Citizen Sleeper which uses dice rolls to create an exciting adventure across a lawless space station.

Out of all the available indie games on Xbox by far one of the greatest indie RPGs players should consider trying has to be Disco Elysium. This game takes the dice rolls of Citizen Sleeper and puts them into a captivating murder mystery where players must control a washed-up detective that has completely forgotten his memory.
Every interaction gives the player a choice as they find themselves taking the opinions of their own cognitive functions in the hope of getting to the bottom of a murder. Disco Elysium is an RPG that must be played multiple times and many players will be happy to get stuck into it all over again.
