Highlights

  • The Xbox 360 Marketplace is closing on July 29.
  • Xbox has started a big sale on 60 non-backward compatible 360 games, with prices as low as $2.24.
  • More games will be added to the sale on June 18 and July 16.

Xbox 360 fans can look forward to even more games going on sale on the 360 Marketplace in the coming weeks and months. Last year, Microsoft announced that the Xbox 360 Marketplace, the console's dedicated digital storefront which is separate from the current Xbox Store, will be shutting down on July 29. Fans of the Xbox 360 have been scrambling to secure both physical and digital versions of games, as not all of them are backward compatible with current Xbox hardware and will thus be lost forever upon the 360's Marketplace shuttering.

Thankfully, Xbox has already begun its big blowout sale with heavy discounts on 60 non-backward compatible Xbox 360 titles. Even some bigger AAA games have had their prices chopped down to just a few dollars. Games like Far Cry 4, Tomb Raider, Watch Dogs, and Thief are all available for under $6, with the latter up for just $2.24. A variety of classic Xbox 360 Arcade indies pepper the list of 60 as well, such as Cloudberry Kingdom, Geon: Emotions, The Escapists, and Zombie Driver HD. No game on the current list exceeds $9.99.

The Xbox 360 was a great console home to many different games, and a lot of the most challenging ones were published by Microsoft.

Xbox has shared its plans to keep the celebration of 360 games going, promising to gradually add even more games to the sale as July 29 approaches later this summer. Specifically, nostalgic Xbox 360 owners can expect more games to be added to the sale on June 18 and July 16. Interestingly, the July update leaves only a small window for gamers to get in and grab the games they want before they're gone for good, so they'll need to be on the ball when mid-July rolls around.

Xbox 360 Marketplace Closure Sale Updates

  • June 18
  • July 16

As of now, there's no dedicated page for the sale on the Xbox 360 Marketplace; gamers need to search for the games individually to get to them. Hopefully, as Xbox updates this sale throughout June and July, it'll create a page that includes all the discounted titles. Time will tell whether some of the biggest, most highly regarded Xbox 360 games join the sale in the coming months, like Halo Reach, the Gears of War franchise, the Bioshock games, or others. In addition, it will be interesting to see if digital-only games that aren't playable on Xbox One or Series X and S will be prioritized, as they'll become permanently unavailable once the Marketplace closes.

While Xbox is hoping to update the sale with as many discounted games as possible, it would be unrealistic to expect the entire remaining 360 Marketplace catalog to be involved. Xbox 360 fans who have specific digital titles in mind would be wise to hold off on purchasing them until the sale is updated for the final time on July 16. Thankfully, games that are not part of the sale will still be available to buy at full price before the 360 Marketplace's final day, July 29.
