An Xbox 360 gamer made an incredible discovery on Facebook Marketplace after they purchased one of the older iterations of the console. Microsoft's Xbox 360 first launched in 2005, and since it was supported for about a decade afterwards, it's no surprise that it went through many updates.

Microsoft updated the Xbox 360's hardware and software on numerous occasions. On the hardware side of things, the new Xbox 360 models addressed serious technical problems like the Red Ring of Death, while the software updates tweaked the dashboard and introduced new features. The latest Xbox 360 dashboard looks nothing like the original one, which organized content with "blades" that users could cycle through to get to access various content.

The Xbox 360 blades dashboard remains popular to this day, to the point where old consoles that still have it are sold on sites like eBay for hundreds of dollars. Reddit user TastefulTexas lucked out when they recently purchased an Xbox 360 from the Facebook Marketplace to discover that it still had the original blades dashboard. TastefulTexas didn't reveal how much they paid for the console, but they did say that they won't connect it to the Internet or hook up any hard drives to it that may potentially trigger an update to get replace the blades dashboard.

Fans have called for Microsoft to bring back the Xbox 360 blades dashboard as a cosmetic option on its newer hardware, but the company has no plans to do so. There's no denying that the modern-day Xbox UI is more user-friendly and has more features than the blades, but there's also no denying the potent nostalgia that the original Xbox 360 dashboard brings to the table. It's unlikely that the Xbox 360 blades will ever make a return, but perhaps Microsoft can figure out some other way to celebrate them.

As time goes on, there will be fewer Xbox 360 consoles in the world with the blades dashboard. After all, people may wind up with old Xbox 360 consoles and decide to connect them to the Internet without really thinking about it, which will replace the blades dashboard with the modern one. And then when one considers the failure rate of original Xbox 360 consoles, it's safe to say that the blades dashboard is in serious danger of becoming extinct at some point down the line.
