According to a new report, Xbox's freshly revealed Gears of War: E-Day could potentially be looking to join Fable, South of Midnight, and Doom: The Dark Ages in 2025. Xbox's past few annual first-party release lineups have been solid, but not spectacular. The tail end of 2021 was big for Xbox with Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, and Psychonauts 2. After a much lighter 2022, Xbox's 2023 was much better; Xbox fans finally got to play Starfield, as well as the surprise Hi-Fi Rush. Hellblade 2, Indiana Jones, and Avowed highlight Xbox's 2024, but 2025 could turn out to be even bigger.

Before Xbox's showcase a few days ago, the brand's 2025 was a big mystery. After experiencing perhaps Xbox's greatest showcase ever, fans now have several major first-party game releases to look forward to next year. Playground Games' long-awaited Fable gave fans another solid glimpse at gameplay and its stunning visuals. South of Midnight, being worked on by Compulsion Games, showed off its gameplay for the first time, wowing fans with its stop-motion animation style. Finally, id Software's newly revealed Doom: The Dark Ages was one of the show's biggest new reveals, taking The Doom Slayer back in time with an epic, medieval-style arsenal of weapons.

8 Exciting Things Revealed About Doom: The Dark Ages

Doom: The Dark Ages is already looking excellent with what players have been shown so far. Here's what has fans excited the most.

Fable, Doom: The Dark Ages, and South of Midnight would already make for a stellar 2025 Xbox lineup, but it seems The Coalition's Gears of War: E-Day may be looking to join the party as well. The Verge's Tom Warren has reported that Xbox is allegedly planning to roll out Gears of War's Emergence Day prequel in 2025. The game's reveal trailer ended without any sort of release year or window whatsoever. Warren added that Fable is targeting its release later in 2025, somewhere between October and December.

Gears of War: E-Day Could Potentially Release in 2025

With Fable reportedly eyeing Q4 of 2025, it's likely that Doom: The Dark Ages, Gears of War: E-Day, and South of Midnight could be looking to drop earlier in the year. Since 2016's Doom and 2020's Doom Eternal both released during Springtime, it wouldn't be out of the question for The Dark Ages to come out in the first half of 2025. Xbox may take Grand Theft Auto 6 into consideration, which is still on track for late 2025 and will undoubtedly hog the zeitgeist for several months surrounding its release. Whether Gears of War: E-Day actually lands next year is unknown, but it could easily be pushed to 2026, as could Fable.

As 2024 keeps moving forward, Xbox fans may begin hearing more about these four big titles, with 2025 and its slate of games drawing ever nearer. It's certainly possible for new trailers containing key details about any of these titles to appear at either Gamescom, The Game Awards, or Xbox's own Developer Direct, which usually happens in January. One thing is clear though, if Fable, The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, and Gears of War: E-Day do actually all drop in 2025, it could be Xbox's biggest year ever.
