With the X-Men back in the hands of those running the Marvel Cinematic Universe, many wonder when the MCU will finally introduce the mutant team. Fans finally got their first real sign of progress, as Marvel Studios will reportedly set up meetings with writers to pitch their interpretation of the X-Men.

With the writers' strike now over, Marvel Studios plans to meet with writers to discuss how they will approach their X-Men reboot. However, there hasn't been a set schedule for when the film will start production or even when it will be released.

Deadline gave the full details of what's to come for the future X-Men movie. "Marvel will start setting writer meetings later this fall for pitches on its anticipated X-Men movie. Insiders add there is no rush to fill the job since the film hasn’t been dated yet, and it’s more than likely that writer decision will be made at the top of 2024." Furthermore, CanWeGetSomeToast claims the X-Men reboot is still four years away, if not more, as Kevin Feige plans to introduce the X-Men to the MCU after Avengers: Secret Wars.

The last time fans saw an X-Men movie was in 2019 when FOX studios tried again to convert the Phoenix saga to the big screen with X-Men: Dark Phoenix. The film was not well-received by fans, which can be attributed to those working on the movie wanting to make it a two-parter when the studios told them it had to be one. By then, the X-Men were firmly in the past, while most Marvel fans wanted to see what the MCU was cooking. Since Avengers: Endgame was released around that time, fans wanted to see the X-Men in the MCU. However, with X-Men now in Marvel Studios' hands, fans are stoked to see how they will factor into the cinematic universe, knowing how powerful the X-Men mutants can be.

By the time it comes out, fans will likely be more than ready to watch another interpretation of the X-Men, knowing how long it will have been by the time it hits theaters. Studios have made mistakes in the past by rebooting franchises a little too fast like Sony releasing The Amazing Spider-Man merely five years after Spider-Man 3 had come out in theaters or when Warner Bros. released Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice less than five years after the release of The Dark Knight Rises. By the time this new X-Men movie comes out, fans will have had time to digest the previous installments and prepare for the next one.

It's pretty timely because Marvel Studios needs a boost. Fan interest has waned a lot since Avengers: Endgame. While the shows and movies they've released since then have not been terrible, they haven't been good enough for fans to want to see what happens next. An X-Men movie could be just what the doctor ordered because of what subjects they touch upon. X-Men may explore darker material, like death, but with other superhero properties changing the game, Marvel Studios has to adapt or die, so they better knock it out of the park when they do their take on the X-Men.

Marvel Studios' X-Men is currently in development.
