Reddit user Acceptable Quail 357 suggested Professor X hid the mutants using his telepathic powers. X-Men was considered a superhero team before mutants became rampant and terrible things happened. The user admitted he wasn't sold on the idea because the arc seemingly suggested that Professor X "abandoned the dream." The user wondered what made the powerful mutant give up and keep his kind hidden. Additionally, considering their potential, powerful mutants like Magneto are unlikely to agree to be hidden.
The post included a document mentioning mutant extinction events. There was reportedly an increased number of mutant births, which opened the door for human-on-mutant crimes to be enacted. It also included names who reportedly committed major mutant crimes, including Steven Lang, Mister Clean, Graydon Creed, Cameron Hodge, Wanda Maximoff, and Bolivar Trask. Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. Scarlet Witch, was featured in multiple Avengers movies. She also scored her spinoff series, WandaVision, which streams on Disney Plus.
The theory opened doors to more speculations about the X-Men's fate in the MCU. While many didn't like the fan theory, it was somehow a good arc to explain the absence of the mutants in MCU, which is difficult to bring up. In the comics, X-Men and Avengers frequently come into contact and are sometimes allied or in conflict. There was even a storyline titled "AvX," where the two groups were pitted against each other. The only potential reason they didn't appear on the screen together was because Marvel Studios previously did not own X-Men. Fans also noticed a mistake involving Iman Vellani Ms Marvel in The Marvels that was seemingly tied to this issue. One scene featured her profile from SABER, and her heritage was marked "Inhuman" and she was classified as "polymorph" despite being written as a mutant in the MCU, so fans wondered why. The possible reason was that, at the time, Marvel Studios did not own X-Men, so the comics made Ms. Marvel an Inhuman. However, it got the rights to the franchise featuring the mutant superheroes when Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, making Ms. Marvel the first official mutant in the MCU.
With Marvel Studios owning both Avengers and X-Men, fans can expect a crossover soon. And with Secret Wars coming up, both worlds might eventually merge into one, and the long-awaited reunion of the mutants and superheroes would likely be featured on the big screen. There is a chance this will happen soon, as an X-Men MCU reboot is already in the works. However, not all characters will appear in Marvel Studios' version because the powerful mutant supervillain Magneto will allegedly be replaced with the antihero, Mister Sinister.
