News of Marvel Zombies first broke last year, which led to many fans wondering if the series would be somehow connected to the zombie episode What If…? The SDCC panel confirmed that the new animated series would in fact take place in the same universe, and it will include more zombie versions of fan-favorite heroes, including Wanda Maximoff, Hawkeye, Abomination, Captain Marvel, and Ikaris. The new set of heroes to join forces to fight the zombies includes Yelena, Kate Bishop, Jimmy Woo, Shang-Chi, Kamala Khan, Red Guardian, and Katy. Death Dealer will also make an appearance, which has fans wondering what his contribution will be. It was confirmed that the series would be rated TV-MA, and the studio executives promised more gore than What If…?

Speaking of What If…?, it is one of the other series that fans received several updates on during the SDCC panel. Season 2 brings back a few of the Avengers to save the Multiverse, and the various episodes will feature Scarlet Witch, Iron Man, Black Widow, Doctor Strange, and Captain Carter. There will be an episode focusing on Hela, another on Odin vs The Mandarin, Captain Carter will finally meet the Winter Soldier, whereas Tony Stark will take a trip to Sakaar with Valkyrie and Hulk. The executives also confirmed that Season 3 is already in the works.

The final animated series to be highlighted at the SDCC panel was X-Men '97, a reboot of the classic X-Men: The Animated Series. The series takes place following the events of the animated series from the '90s, where Magneto is in charge of the X-Men. The heroes making an appearance in the upcoming series include Bishop, Morph, Cable, Forge, Nightcrawler, and Sunspot. The list of villains includes Emma Frost, Sinister, Sebastian Shaw, and Callisto.

X-Men '97 and season 2 of What If…? are expected to premiere on Disney Plus in 2023, and Marvel Zombies premieres in 2024.
