Wytchwood is a new crafting puzzle game from Alientrap. Although this cozy little indie title is all about traveling the world and mixing ingredients together to make spells, players will come across some difficult areas filled with strange puzzles and dangerous creatures. Here are some tips for players just getting started in this Animal Crossing- or Stardew Valley-like crafting fairytale.

Unlock Wytchwood's Waypoints ASAP

Every time players head into a new area, they should be looking to unlock the fast-travel portal in that part of Wytchwood. These waypoints allow players to easily move between locations to get more ingredients from all over the world. This will become even more important as players continue to unlock bigger parts of the unique-looking, storybook-style map. There are currently nine portals:

Collect Everything

It seems like a no-brainer that players should be collecting all the odds and ends they find in the world in order to make bigger and better spells later on in the game. However, players may stop collecting certain items when they feel they have enough of them already, like Impeye Nuts, Twigs, Meaty Morsels, or the items to make jars in Wytchwood. But be assured, no matter how many of these items players have already collected, they will most likely need more.

Use the Witch's Sight on Every Little Thing in Wytchwood

The Witch's Sight is a massively useful tool in Wytchwood. This tool allows players to scope out new creatures and find out their weaknesses, unlock new recipes, and even just learn some new information about the people, plants, and animals around them. If players are ever stuck, the best thing they can do is to use the Witch's Sight on every object they can find with a white outline. Along with the Witch's Sight, players should also keep a close eye on their Quest list, which is in the main menu along with their grimoire, usable items, and map.

Keep Some Spells On Hand

There are some items that players should always have on hand. It's a good idea to always have these things no matter what:

  • Always have some Hearthseeds at the ready in case players have to fast-travel back to the in-between quickly.
  • Bait Sticks, Snap Traps, and other items that kill enemies in the area are also good to keep on hand.
  • The items to make a jar: embers and clay. The witch needs a LOT of jars in this game, and she also uses these two items for a million other spells and reagents.
  • Healing Potions or items to make healing potions. The witch only can take three hits before she dies. Players are almost guaranteed to take some damage, no matter how long their Wytchwood playthrough is.

Talk to Everyone

Similar to old-school RPGs like King's Quest or Final Fantasy 1, players need to chat with everyone they come across. NPCs in this game hold a lot of information, and each one can add a little something to the story or the quest the witch is on.

Wytchwood is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
