In Wytchwood, players have to travel through several different biomes to collect ingredients for spells. Each location has a selection of new items to collect, from Frog Slime to Gnome Hats. One of the more difficult items to find is the Eye of Newt, which is located in the Swamp.
Eye of Newt in Wytchwood
The first time players need an Eye of Newt will be for the Potion of Blight, an important reagent in several spells. In order to complete the Leech chapter, players will need to make one of these potions. At this time, players will only have unlocked the Forest, the Fields, and the Swamp Wytchwood fast-travel portals, so this item needs to be located in one of these places. Players can find the Poisonous Newt, the animal that drops the Eye, in the Swamp.
The Poisonous Newt
In order to chase a Poisonous Newt out of its hiding spot, Wytchwood players need to use their Ax on a Rotten Stump in the Swamp. These rotten stumps can be found all over the place, and they usually drop some twigs along with releasing a Newt into the world. These little orange lizards are meat eaters but also venomous. If players take a look at one of these through the Witch's Sight, they'll quickly find these lizards have a meaty weakness.
After breaking the Rotting Log and finding a Newt, players will need a Bait Stick. These reagents help players to catch all sorts of dangerous or fast critters without the witch endangering herself. In the swamp, these can be used to catch Dragonflies for their wings and their Ichor, but Poisonous Newts will also take the bait as well. The recipe for Bait Sticks is:
- One Toxic Thistle, a purple-looking plant that grows on the ground in the Swamp
- Twigs which can be found on the ground just about anywhere
- Meaty Morsels, which players have most likely already nabbed from Snap Trapping birds for feathers or Wytchwood squirrels for Rodent Lard.
Plant the stick on the ground and take a few steps back. Soon, the lizard will approach the stick in search of dinner. One bite and the Newt will explode into several pieces, giving players two Eyes of Newt and some more meat to use for other Bait Sticks in the future; players will need Bait Sticks several times during their 10-hour playthrough of Wytchwood. Keep in mind that Dragonflies, which are all over the place in the Swamp, also will be after Bait Sticks, so players should make more than one in case a Dragonfly gets to it before the Newt can.
