Wytchwood is a cozy, story-driven game about a witch looking to finish a contract by collecting 12 souls. While wandering around the fairytale-like indie game, players will need to catch birds and squirrels, trap possessed pumpkins, and even calm some very territorial dogs.

Lighting the Braziers in Wytchwood

In order to complete one of the first real tasks that players get, they will need to collect four items from the Forest: a shining stone, frog slime, a blue feather, and a bit of dog fur. Each of these is needed to light one of four braziers in Wytchwood's opening chapter. In order to get the last item, players will first have to concoct a treat for the pup and place a little sleeping potion inside it.

Use Witch's Sight in Wytchwood

Wytchwood-Calm-Dog-2

To take the first step in unlocking all the fast-travel portals in Wytchwood and capturing the 12 souls, take a look at the dog with Witch's Sight. This tool is used over and over again in the game to find out the weaknesses of different animals and monsters, allowing players to steal from them, capture them, and kill them.

Some critters require only simple traps to catch, like squirrels and birds, but others require a lot more work to get what the witch needs from them. Once players take a look at the dog through Witch's Sight, they will earn the recipes for several new items.

Collect a Jar

First, players will need to either take a jar or create one. The easiest way is to sneak behind the dog and grab one of the two jars behind her, but players can also create one.

  • Jars need clay and embers to make.
  • To get the clay, head to the well and talk to the Well Wisher. He will give you his trowel. Head into the well and dig at the Clay Deposits with the Trowel. They will drop clay.
  • To get embers, head over to the Woodcutter's house and look for the Ash Pile by the fire. Use the Trowel on it. It should contain the ember needed.
  • Don't forget to grab the ax from the Woodcutter, as it is needed for the next step in the morsel-making process.

Create the Soporific Potion

Wytchwood-Calm-Dog-3
  • Take the jar back into the well and fill it with one of the water holes in the walls.
  • Find a Rotting Log somewhere on the Forest floor. They pop up all over the place, so this shouldn't be difficult. Inside the rotting logs, players will find branches, impeye nuts, and a mushroom called Lethe Cap.
  • Combine the Lethe Cap, the Jar filled with Water, and the Impeye Nut together to form a Soporific Potion.

Create the Soporific Morsel

Players can create simple traps for small animals out of twine, branches, and impeye nuts. These traps can be used for Wytchwood rats, squirrels, and birds. In order to get the recipe for the trap, players just have to use the Witch's sight on one of these little animals. Create a trap and set it, then wait for it to catch a squirrel or a bird. This should give players an item called a Meaty Morsel. This combined with the Soporific Potion will create a Soporific Morsel which is the weakness of the dog.

  • Return to the pooch and right-click on her to throw her the sleepy treat. She will gobble it down and immediately start snoring away.
  • Once she is asleep, walk up to her and use the Shears on her.
  • This will drop a clump of dog hair onto the ground. Players can use the shears on any sleeping or distracted furry creature to clip off their hair, like the three sheep missionaries in later chapters of Wytchwood.
  • Pick it up and bring it back to the Brazier by walking back through the portal or by breaking a Hearthseed to instantly take the witch back to her home.

The witch will need several tufts of dog hair through the 10-hour playtime of Wytchwood, but one Soporific Morsel will only allow players to collect one clump of fur. In order to get more, players have to wait for the dog to wake then give it another sleeping treat or find another dog in another location to give another Soporific Morsel to.

Wytchwood is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
