WWE 2K23 has four different versions of the cage match to play. There is Hell in a Cell, The Elimination Chamber, the new addition of WarGames, and the classic Steel Cage Match. The Cage Match is one of the oldest in wrestling and the most brutal match types players can choose.
There are multiple ways to win a standard Steel Cage Match in WWE 2K23, and moves and attacks that are exclusive to the match. However, working these moves out and figuring out how to ensure the player's wrestler is successful can be frustrating.
WWE Catch Match Rules
To win a Cage Match without changing anything in the pre-match settings, the stipulations for winning are as follows:
- Pinfall
- Submission
- Climbing out of the cage
- Escaping via the cage door
Players can customize the option before a one-on-one Cage Match. This way, the wrestlers can only win or lose by escaping the cage or win by submission and pinfalls.
Before The Cage Match
Winning the Steel Cage Match against the AI can be a frustrating experience because they will always go for the win as early as possible. The WWE 2K23 wrestlers are programmed to sell more convincingly after they have been hit. As a result, they'll stay on the canvas or dazed in a corner for longer if they have taken enough damage. While this is great for realism, it can be frustrating when trying to win a match where the AI has two ways to escape.
Match Preparations
- Pick a wrestler with good recovery stats. An obvious choice in WWE 2K23 is Roman Reigns. Alternatively, change a wrestler's recovery stats and improve their ratings in WWE 2K23.
- Use a wrestler with good combos like Rob Van Dam to get an early advantage and keep the AI guessing.
- Press R1/RB to recover with the blue momentum bar to get up.
Using The Cage As A Weapon
In addition to attacks, WWE wrestlers can use the cage to their advantage and perform brutal moves. To do this, use the following steps:
- Hold the L-stick and the Circle/B button toward the cage to slam them into it.
- When a wrestler is perched up against the ropes with the drag action by pressing Circle/B and L1, hit the wrestler with a devastating clothesline using L2/LT and Square/X or X/A.
- Use the carry action to throw them into the cage, Press the Circle/B button to grab an R1 and up on the L-stick to position them for the Powerbomb position in WWE 2K23, then carry and walk them toward the fence, and press the Square/X button at the prompt or Circle/B to throw them.
Winning A Cage Match
- Ensure that the opponent is stunned by using a signature and finishing move.
- Climb the cage using the R1 button. The wrestler will get halfway and must press R1 again to initiate a mini-game where the player must rapidly press the indicated button.
- The mini-game will continue until the wrestler has their feet on the outside of the cage. Reaching the outside will mean the player or the opponent has won.
- If the opponent is trying to climb out, follow them by pressing the R1/RB button to climb with them and fight on the cage's fence. Or press the attack and grapple buttons to pull them down.
- To call for the referee to open the cage, press the L1/LB button near the cage door. The referee will take their time, but with the door open, press the R1/RB button to climb through. The opponent can interrupt the animation if they aren't down long enough.
Sometimes both wrestlers can go for an escape at the same time, fighting up the cage. This becomes a race against time based on the most accurate timed button presses for the win. That's everything a player needs to win a match, even against WWE superstars like Roman Reigns.
