Had WWE 2K22 failed to meet expectations, it was believed that the WWE video game license would be shopped elsewhere, potentially to 2K competitor EA.

However, WWE 2K22 released to mostly positive reviews and has been generally hailed as a major return to form for the popular wrestling game series. Not only did WWE 2K22 enjoy a positive reaction from fans and critics, but it also had strong sales, ensuring that the WWE video game license was going to stay with 2K Sports for the foreseeable future.
