Following the chaotic release that was WWE 2K20 last year, Visual Concepts decided it would take a year off to hone the series, leaving the yearly wrestling promotion's annual entry in the capable hands of Saber Interactive. In turn, the studio made WWE 2K Battlegrounds: a wacky, colorful, and entirely over-the-top new take on the biggest brand in Sport's Entertainment.

The game launched today on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and Nintendo Switch, seeing players able to access a giant roster of current and legendary names, such as Roman Reigns, Becky Lynch, John Cena, "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt, and Edge. Another big name playable in the game is, of course, The Undertaker, with the phenom's face plastered all over the upcoming release's marketing materials and ads.

The latter has even made his way into a brand new trailer, with the footage showing off the now-retired wrestling icon playing WWE 2K Battlegrounds with his wife and fellow legend Michelle McCool as well as his young daughter. Seeing The Undertaker out of kayfabe is always strange, especially because his wrestling gimmick made him such a larger than life presence, but seeing him play WWE 2K Battlegrounds is especially odd. The trailer mostly sees something of a fierce battle brewing between the phenom and his daughter, with The Undertaker losing and immediately requesting a rematch.

The trailer then cuts to tons of footage from the newly released game, showing The Rock pull of a gravity-defying mid-air punch on John Cena, Becky Lynch hit Rhonda Rousey with a motorcycle, and The Undertaker punch the ground with such an impact that the ring collapses. It's evidently going to bring a lot of welcome silliness and over-the-top fun in comparison to the more simulative WWE 2K titles that have hit shelves in previous years, making it a great pit stop while fans wait for WWE 2K22.

The game will also be getting a lot of post-launch content, although it's still unclear as to when that will be. Following launch, Batista, Sheamus, Paige, Kane, Rhea Ripley, Buddy Murphy, The Boogeyman, Eddie Guerrero, and more will make their way into the title, leaving the roster roughly the same size as a normal, yearly WWE release. Until then, there's still a huge variety of huge wrestling names to play with, meaning players can set up some incredible dream matches. The trailer alone shows off The Undertaker vs Andrei The Giant, as well as the phenom taking on current WWE champion, Drew McIntyre.

WWE Battlegrounds is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and Nintendo Switch.
