WWE 2K Battlegrounds is less than a week away from entering the ring and 2K has now discussed the game's post launch plans with details on finishers, DLC , and customization.

In a recent interview, Executive Producer Sean O'Connor talked about several aspects of the upcoming game, including how the current roster of WWE 2K Battlegrounds was chosen. O'Connor admitted that many members to the development team are huge fans of the industry and already well versed on who the fans like and dislike.

Discussing the overall gameplay of WWE 2K Battlegrounds with ComicBook, O'Connor went over the various meters in the game the player needs to keep track of. The Health Bar speaks for itself, as it determines how much damage a player can take before been vulnerable of being pinned and losing the match. Both the Heat and Stamina Bar work in tandem, as once the Heat Bar fills, players can unleash a signature move to put an opponent away. The Stamina bar determines the success of an executed move, forcing players to be cautious before simply mashing buttons.

WWE Battlegrounds has big shoes to fill. Earlier in the year, 2K Games announced that the long running WWE 2K series would be skipping a 2020 release, leaving a big gap for wrestling fans. In its place, WWE 2K Battlegrounds was announced to release in September with a focus on arcade gameplay, over-the-top finishers, and a massive roster. Reception to the announcement of the game was mixed with fans of the 2K series deeply disappointed in the lack of a new main game, already compounded by the poor reception of last year's release.

Fans who pick up WWE 2K Battlegrounds will recognize the commentary team providing the play-by-play of every match in the game. Revealed at a new trailer shown at Gamescom, both Jerry "The King" Lawler and Mauro Ranallo will lend their voices to the arcade grappler calling out the big moves and major turning points throughout matches. Ranallo's addition is particularly interesting as the well versed commentator announced his departure from WWE a few weeks after the announcement of his role in the game.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds launches September 18 on Google Stadia, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
