There might be no limit on how many Echoes players can farm in Wuthering Waves. However, having a long list of repetitive and useless creatures is not on any fan’s wish list. Luckily, there’s an invaluable option in Wuthering Waves that lets players farm Echoes without cluttering their Data Bank: Data Merge. Using this fusion tool, players can combine Echoes to create new ones with possibly better stats. Here’s a comprehensive guide to making the most of Data Merge.

What Is Data Merge in Wuthering Waves?

Data Merge is a fusion tool that lets players combine five creatures into one. It works similarly to Genshin Impact’s Artifact Strongbox but with higher RNG, as players cannot choose the desired set or type of the merged Echo.

To activate the merge, players must insert at least five Echoes into the device. The rarity of the fused Echo depends on the players’ Data Bank level, not the rarity of the materials used.

How to Unlock Data Merge

To unlock the Data Merge device, players must reach Data Bank level eight. Once this requirement is met, the option will appear in the Terminals under the Data Bank menu. The Data Bank level increases each time a player absorbs a unique Echo, including higher rarities of an Echo that has already been captured.

After reaching Data Bank level eight, go to the Data Bank menu in Terminal and select the last option from the sidebar. In the Data Merge menu, choose five Echoes of any type and press Merge to get a new variant. Note that the results are random. The rarity and value of the merge materials will only increase the chances of getting Extras, which are additional Echoes that can emerge from a fusion.

Tips and Notes for Using Data Merge

Wuthering Waves: Data Merge Guide

While Data Merge is a great way to repurpose unused Echoes, it has its own risks. Before combining their Echoes, players should be aware of the rules of Data Merging in Wuthering Waves:

  • Players cannot merge upgraded or locked Echoes.
  • The rarity of the merge outcome depends on the player's Data Bank level. (The higher the level, the rarer the Echoes.)
  • Data Merge will only produce Echoes that have already been absorbed, though they might be of new rarities.
  • Inserting rare Echoes into the device will increase the chance of getting Extras, but it won’t affect the rarity or value of the outcome.
  • If a merged Echo is of a new rarity, it will grant the player Data Bank EXP equivalent to the amount they would earn from absorbing it in the overworld.

It's best to only merge Echoes that the player has no plans to use. 1- to 3-Star Echoes are good choices for merging, while 4-Star and 5-Star Echoes should be kept in the inventory and not merged.
