In Wuthering Waves, players can use up to three characters together in a team. All characters, or Resonators, are associated with a specific element, which determines how they deal damage in battle. At the time of writing, there are 18 resonators available in the game. Players can claim some of these characters for free, while the rest can be obtained by going through the gacha system of the game.

This list covers all the Aero Resonators available in the game. While all are useful in one way or another, some are stronger than others. Here's how they rank from worst to best, to help players identify the best possible wind-wielding character they can use in the game.

4 Aalto

Flashy Gameplay, But Little Substance

the best build for aalto in wuthering waves.
  • Weapon: Pistols
  • Rarity: 4-Star

Most players' least favorite choice for an Aero Resonator game is Aalto. However, this doesn't mean that Aalto as a unit provides no value. In terms of Aalto's strengths, the first thing that comes to mind is his gameplay, which is fast and extremely fun. This makes Aalto a good choice for players who are seeking fun to use characters in Wuthering Waves.

Aalto is best when paired with an aero main DPS like Jiyan, since his outro skill boosts the next character's aero damager. He can increase his movement speed to move around at a rapid pace, and can also taunt enemies and create a mist avatar. This ability allows him to deal damage safely while enemies are busy hitting the mist clone.

However, players should be wary of Aalto's downsides. His ultimate skill takes too long to cast thanks to its high energy cost, making it tough to utilize. His inherent skills don’t contribute much in the battle, which limits his usefulness on the field.

As a 4-star unit, players can easily acquire Aalto's dupes. With each sequence node, Aalto gets stronger, making him a good choice for players who possess multiple sequences for Aalto or those who want to try out his flashy gameplay.

3 Yangyang

A Good Option Among Free Characters

Yangyang sequence node showcase
  • Weapon: Sword
  • Rarity: 4-Star

Yangyang is one of the early resonators, and is available for free. She is the first character who joins the Rover’s journey on Solaris-3 during the prologue chapter. This early companion has some decent utility, but her benefits for the team diminish as time passes and the game progresses.

Yangyang excels at gathering opponents with her resonance skill and resonance liberation, making it easier to crowd control enemies. Her ultimate skill is pretty cheap, making it easier for players to handle enemies in an area. Being a free character, players will receive dupes of her when rolling for other characters. Each dupe contributes significantly to increasing her battle power.

However, Yangyang suffers from bad attack output. This puts her lower on the list, as there are better characters who outperform her. Her outro skill's resonance energy regeneration ability is a unique one, placing her in somewhere between the role of Hybrid and Support. Only time can tell how she will perform with upcoming characters.

2 Jianxin

Gauntlets With Power and Utility

Jianxin sequence node
  • Weapon: Gauntlets
  • Rarity: 5-Star

Jianxin is a loaded 5-star who is powerful enough to survive on her own. The formidable martial arts practitioner wields gauntlets, facing enemies with unwavering determination. Jianxin has a strong ultimate skill that can group enemy units in a vortex. This ability can come in handy in various situations, especially when fighting against a horde of enemies.

Her kit offers a variety of utilities. Jianxin can provide other team members with sturdy shields that can tank enemy attacks, while her outro skill buffs the ultimate skill of the character that takes over the field after her. Her shield also provides healing to the on field character, which is an excellent ability. On top of that, Jianxin has a unique resonance skill that grants her the power to counter certain mechanics when in a boss fight.

Monster Hunter World: Sword and Shield Builds For Endgame

The Sword and Shield is a great weapon type that becomes even better with the right skills. Here's an endgame build for it in Monster Hunter World.

However, despite all of Jianxin's merits, she doesn't make the top of the list. The problem with Jianxin lies with the time she takes on the field. Her Forte Gauge, the passive ability behind her shield and healing mechanism, requires a lot of time to properly utilize. This makes her a less-than-ideal pick when trying to clear endgame content. Her shield is also less useful if the team has an active support character who can heal allies more effectively. Jianxin is also slower compared to traditional Wuthering Waves combat, which can put some players off.

Even with her drawbacks, Jianxin is still a solid character and one of the best units for the open world aspect of the game. Players can use her to crowd-control enemies and to buff the ultimate skill for the next character. All it requires to make Jianxin a strong asset is to build her with the correct strategy.

1 Jiyan

The Ultimate Damage Dealer

Jiyan sequence node
  • Weapon: Broadblade
  • Rarity: 5-Star

Jiyan is a 5-star resonator and, at the time of writing, is the strongest aero character in terms of damage output. Jiyan relies on his Resonance Liberation to deal extreme damage. On top of having top-notch damage multipliers, Jiyan is also surprisingly easy to play, making him a beginner-friendly character. Along with his vast range and easy to perform combos, Jiyan becomes the best choice when looking for an aero resonator.

Most of Jiyan’s damage comes from his ultimate skill, and once his ultimate is over, his damage is somewhat lackluster. It is essential to maintain proper energy regeneration with Jiyan on the team to ensure his ultimate's uptime. These shortcomings don’t hold Jiyan back much, but he requires team support to truly shine on the battlefield. Jiyan is a straightforward battle god, and players will not regret rolling for him.
