Yangyang is a free 4-Star Aero character in Wuthering Waves who is unlocked right from the start of the main story. Players would be forgiven for thinking that, being a free 4-Star, she falls into the same category as Chixia, a sub-par character only meant to be played to get through the early parts of the story. No, instead, Yangyang is one of the most useful units in the game, specializing in crowd control and providing energy to her teammates.

Yangyang's Outro Skill, Whispering Breeze, gives 4 Energy per second for 5 seconds to whichever character she switches to. That's an easy 20 Energy to give to any unit players want. Both her Resonance skill and Liberation create a small black hole that sucks in nearby units and damages them at the same time (think Venti from Genshin Impact). Not only is Yangyang's crowd control useful in the overworld for clearing hordes of smaller enemies, but it is also incredible in the Tower of Adversity, where getting enemies to clump together can make advancing much easier.

Performing a Super Jump can allow players to jump across vast chasms without falling in Wuthering Waves. Here is how players can use it.

1 Yangyang + Jiyan + Verina

Yangyang + Jiyan + Verina team composition in wuthering waves

Jiyan is the main DPS in this team, spending the bulk of his time on-field dealing damage both in his Teal Dragon state and as his normal self. Yangyang's role here is to make Jiyan's life easier for him by using her CC to group together enemies. Jiyan's Liberation already gives him a decent AoE when dealing damage, but when paired with Yangyang, every swing of his sword hits an entire group of enemies. What's great about this pairing is that Jiyan's attacks don't knock back the enemies at all, and he stays in one place when using his attacks. Unlike Calcharo, who zips around the battlefield and repositions himself with every sword swing, Jiyan stays put. This makes combos where Yangyang pulls in enemies, and Jiyan deals damage easier to pull off.

Verina's role as a healer cannot be overlooked, as during Yangyang's crowd control, Jiyan doesn't want to move away from the enemies, which means either dodging everything perfectly or taking it on the chin. Verina's healing makes sure there are no repercussions to this playstyle, while her buffs ensure that Jiyan's attacks deal even more damage.

Yangyang Team Roles

  • Yangyang: Sub-DPS, Crowd Control
  • Jiyan: DPS
  • Verina: Healer, Buffer

2 Yangyang + Havoc Rover + Baizhi

Yangyang + Havoc Rover + Baizhi team composition in wuthering waves

All characters in this team are completely free for all players, and it is still one of the best team compositions you can ask for. Havoc Rover takes on the role of the main DPS, entering their Dark Surge state whenever possible to spam the skill, the basic attack + heavy attack combo, and the Liberation. Havoc Rover's Liberation is actually one of the highest damage-dealing abilities in the entire game, which can wipe out entire groups of enemies in one shot.

Yangyang's main role here is to give Havoc Rover as much energy as possible. While her Outro skill already takes care of this to an extent, equipping them with the Moonlit Clouds set also goes a long way. Havoc Rover also takes advantage of Yangyang's CC, but their basic attack combo has the tendency to scatter the gathered enemies. Baizhi is the background healer and buffer to both Rover and Yangyang, providing much-needed HP recovery to compensate for the aggressive playstyle.

Spectro Rover can also work in this team. However, as Spectro, they fit more of a Sub-DPS role than a proper on-field DPS. Spectro Rover wants to press their buttons and leave the field to other units, which can work in this team, but only if Yangyang takes on a more central role, which requires more investment in her abilities.

Yangyang Team Roles

  • Yangyang: Sub-DPS, Crowd Control
  • Havoc Rover: DPS
  • Baizhi: Healer, Buffer

3 Yangyang + Jianxin + Danjin

Yangyang + Jianxin + Danjin team composition in wuthering waves

Jianxin and Yangyang both have very similar roles in the meta. They're crowd control units with different specialties. Jianxin takes on a jack-of-all-trades role, sucking in enemies for crowd control, tanking attacks with team-wide shields, and healing for a small amount when needed, all the while providing decent DPS.

Yangyang, on the other hand, specializes in providing ER to her teammates, ensuring their Liberations recharge as quickly as possible. For Danjin, this is the best of both worlds. As a dedicated DPS, Danjin's damage mainly comes from her Resonance skill, which hits enemies in an arc in front of her. While this damage is technically AoE, CC can help Danjin massively by grouping enemies in front of her, allowing her to hit them all with her skills. Not only that, but players will also have an easier time dodging attacks if they see everything coming. For Danjin, this is huge because she is an incredibly risky character to play, almost always teetering on the edge of dying because of the way her kit works.

Yangyang Team Roles

  • Yangyang: Sub-DPS, Crowd Control
  • Jianxin: Sub-DPS, Healer, Buffer, Shielder, Crowd Control
  • Danjin: DPS
