A brand-new trailer for the upcoming pro wrestling RPG WrestleQuest was unveiled, revealing the game's release date for consoles and PC. WrestleQuest was one of the leading indie games present at Nintendo's recent Indie World Showcase this week, and the new trailer takes a brief look into the game's turn-based RPG combat.

WrestleQuest combines the allure of pixel art turn-based fantasy RPGs with the legacy of 80s and 90s pro wrestling. Players will create their own wrestling hero and rise through the pro wrestling ranks to become a world champion. While on the path to becoming a renowned champion, players will visit worlds based on the careers of WWE pro wrestling legends such as “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Jake the Snake Roberts, The Road Warriors, and Andre the Giant. The fantasy RPG elements become even more apparent while traversing the worlds and learning new powerful wrestling moves that may turn the tide in challenging battles.

During the November Nintendo Indie World Showcase, publisher Skybound Games and developer Mega Cat Studios announced WrestleQuest will release in May 2023 for consoles and PC. A new WrestleQuest trailer was released after the recent showcase, confirming the release date once more and providing a glimpse into the game's dynamic turn-based combat. WrestleQuest features over 30 pro wrestling stars and legends, according to Skybound Games, so WWE fans will likely recognize many of the wrestlers depicted in the game.

Pre-orders aren't available just yet, but eager fans may wishlist WrestleQuest on Steam to receive updates directly from the developers. Skybound Games will likely update fans about when Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, Steam, and Xbox Store digital pre-orders should open.

WrestleQuest pays tribute to pro wrestling's beloved legends while bringing a fresh new approach to standard turn-based RPG combat. WrestleQuest takes cues from classic Japanese RPGs such as Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest with its use of vivid dungeons and fantastical enemies, so it may be an interesting title for JRPG fans and wrestling fans alike.

The May 2023 release date places WrestleQuest in a prime position for success away from many of the early 2023 game releases such as Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, Dead Space remake, Hogwarts Legacy, and Resident Evil 4 remake. Although WrestleQuest releases closer to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom next year, indie games are known to thrive on the popular Nintendo Switch platform. As the latest Indie World Showcase has shown, many indie developers are excited to bring their games to Switch.

WrestleQuest releases in May 2023 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
