The Burnout series was famous for allowing players to engage in high-speed racing while encouraging them to get rough with opponents sharing the streets. Gamers fell in love with the intense crashes, fast cars, and over-the-top physics, but unfortunately, since Burnout Paradise in 2008, the series has lain dormant. For gamers looking for a similar kind of action, it might be worth looking towards Wreckreation.

Three Fields Entertainment is developing Wrekreation, and the game promises to bring tons of vehicular destruction. Although a release date has yet to be announced, gamers should keep an eye on it as it has many of the features that made Burnout Paradise a blast. Like Burnout, Wreckreation will let players cause plenty of chaos, but players will also be to unleash their creativity by designing their own tracks.

What Is Wreckreation?

Wreckreation is an upcoming action racing game that will take players to MixWorld where they can explore, race, and crash to their heart's content. Thanks to online play, the game will also feature a leaderboard for players to compete against other speed freaks around the world to be the greatest in various categories which include Drift, Air, Near Miss, Stunt, Crash, and Time. There will be a myriad of game modes to choose from, and players will be able to mix up different game modes or let other players become a "Guest DJ," granting them the ability to decide the next game modes.

Of course, there will also be plenty of car customization available both in terms of cosmetics and performance. Players will be able to trick out their rides with different paint jobs, rims, transmission styles, and engine sounds, to name a few options, and they will all be available at the start of the game. The ability for players to customize their gameplay experience is not limited to their cars, as they will also have the opportunity to control traffic levels on the roads and even adjust the weather and time of day. Quite excitingly, players will also be able to switch between in-game radio stations or stream their own music through Spotify.

Can Wreckreation Replace Burnout?

Burnout Paradise Remastered sports car racing through city

Wrekcreation is likely to bear some similarities to Burnout thanks to the fact that the developers are composed of folks who also worked on Burnout and Need for Speed. Hence, while it is an indie game, the developers behind it are certainly not amateurs. Like Burnout Paradise, Wreckcreation will also feature an open world for players to drive around looking for trouble. However, the game will also have many features to differentiate itself from Burnout, and perhaps even surpass it.

One of the most notable features is the ability for players to design their own courses which they can invite friends to try out. Players will have various tools at their disposal which include half pipes, jumps, loops, and even moving obstacles. Occasionally, players will encounter vacant lots where they erect structures that will affect the world on a greater level. For example, building a police station will increase police presence in that area. The ability to customize almost all aspects of the game, together with the ludicrous courses which players can design, ensures that Wreckreation is not purely a Burnout clone.

Since Burnout's absence, plenty of games have tried to fill in the gap it left in gaming, including titles like Wreckfest which let players indulge in dangerous driving. However, Wreckreation appears to show the most potential to please Burnout fans. Fortunately, it also brings enough new features to avoid being a mere copy of the successful franchise.

Wreckreation is in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
