World of Warcraft has a lot of content with different names and types, and it can get a bit confusing, especially for newer players. One such piece of content is Timewalking, a way to experience older content and still get rewards and progress for doing so.

This and Chromie Time are two ways players can level alts, get transmogs, and enjoy past content, and this guide explains how this content works.

What is Timewalking?

World-of-Warcraft-Timewalking-WOTLK

Timewalking is a dungeon difficulty event in World of Warcraft that allows players to play older content scaled to their level and gear. While a Timewalking event is active, players can select to do Timewalking dungeons in the Group Finder, much like they would for Normal and Heroic dungeons. They can also take on the Timewalking event's raid and its bosses by finding a group through the premade groups tab.

Players will need to be level 30 to begin Timewalking dungeons, with more unlocking as they level to 45, where all will be available when an event is active. Players can check for the next Timewalking event in the in-game calendar.

Why Should Players Use Timewalking?

With Timewalking, there are a few reasons it can be a worthwhile endeavor for players, the first being leveling up. Once players can use Timewalking, and they are active, dungeons can be completed very quickly and give players a lot of experience, making it a quick way to level up and a helpful tool for alts and getting them geared up as they level.

Speaking of loot, loot drops in Timewalking will have the Timewarped tag and are scaled up to an appropriate item level for the player, helping to keep players strong enough to take on content while leveling up and unlocking transmogs.

World of Warcraft fans who fancy felines should look forward to The War Within, as they can do more than simply pet the cats they encounter.

Players will also earn Timewarped Badges by killing bosses and completing the Timewalking quest, usually picked up by an item that drops from the first Timewalking dungeon completed. These can then be used to purchase items like mounts, reputation badges, and Heirloom items, to name a few.

Lastly, during a Timewalking event, players will earn a 50% increased reputation with factions associated with the expansion, so grinding out a reputation for certain rewards will be much easier.

How to Use Chromie Time

Along with Time Walking, there is another, more robust version for leveling alts called Chromie Time. It is unlocked after one character reaches level 60 and levels up through the Battle of Azeroth expansion. When a player reaches level 10, they will get the quest Adventurers Wanted: Chromie's Call, which will lead players to Chromie in their major city, where they can use this feature.

Chromie is found in the following locations for players to use Chromie Time:

  • Stormwind: Coordinates (56.2, 17.6)
  • Orgrimmar: Coordinates (40.8, 80.0)

Once unlocked, players can choose which expansion to play through while leveling up, including its dungeons. The expansion automatically scales along with a player's level, meaning players can stay in one or jump around between expansions.
