What's New for Shadow Priests for WoW: Dragonflight?

The new talent system introduced in the World of Warcraft: Dragonflight 10.0 Pre-Patch has brought many changes to the Shadow Priest and how you set up your character. Some skills are no longer either learned spells, covenant abilities, or legendary abilities. Many of these have been moved to talents that you can choose if you'd like to use them. A few examples of skills that are unlockable as talents for a Shadow Priest are:

  • Dispersion
  • Silence
  • Last Word
  • Psychic Horror
  • Mind Spike
  • Shadow Crash

These are just a few of the unlockable skills, with even more as you enter further down the talent trees. Let's go over some fun talent builds for the Shadow Priest in both a Raid and Mythic+ situations.

Talents are now split between a class-specific talent tree and a specialization (Shadow) specific tree. You will fill both of these talent trees out to find the perfect build.

It is worth noting that you can also now change you talents anywhere you are. You no longer have to have tomes or be in a city to change talents. As long as you are out of combat, you can activate a different specialization or simply change up one or two of your talents. Make sure you try out many alterations of our suggested builds to see what is right for you!

Shadow Priest Class Talents in Dragonflight

We must first explore the class talents for the Shadow Priest. The talent tree below shows our suggested class build for the shadow specialization. When you read the specific Shadow Mythic+ and Raid builds later in this guide, both of them use this same class tree. It focuses mainly on damage increasing choices where possible. It mostly stays out of the left side of the tree as those talents are more geared toward healing specializations, though it does take Mass Dispel for added utility in your group.

Shadow Priest Specialization Talents

Here are two Shadow Priest talent builds that will be viable for Raids and Mythic+. As mentioned earlier, feel free to adjust some talents to fit your playstyle. There are so many ways to build characters now and there is not one direct path that will be head and shoulders above the rest.

Dragonflight Shadow Priest Raid Talent Build (Single Target)

This Shadow Specialization build focuses on generating high DPS on single targets. This is an ideal setup for a raid as you will want to maximize your boss damage.

If you are looking to build this specialization and are still level 60, prioritize obtaining the Idol of Y'Shaarj, then fill out bottom of the other columns.

Priest Raid Single Target Talents

Dragonflight Shadow Priest Mythic+ Talent Build (AoE)

You will find that the suggested Mythic+ talent builds swaps out some singe target talents in favor of any AoE talents. Some talents added to focus on with your AoE spells are:

  • Idol of N'Zoth
  • Idol of Yogg-Saron
  • Tormented Spirits replaces Auspicious Spirits

If you are looking to build this specialization and are still level 60, prioritize Idol of Yogg-Saron, and leave out the talents leading to Idol of N'Zoth.
