Tailoring is the perfect profession to pick up if you’re playing a cloth wearer in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight. Much like Leatherworking or Blacksmithing, Tailoring allows players to be self-sufficient by giving them the opportunity to craft their own gear. In addition, Tailoring can also be used to craft bags, bandages, spellthreads, and various other items you can use or your own characters or sell to others for a nice profit.

Unlike other crafting professions, Tailoring isn't dependent on a gathering profession for raw materials. Most of the materials needed to level up Tailoring drop from humanoid mobs found across the Dragon Isles. On occasion, you may need to buy some of them but since cloth is always in plentiful supply, you’re bound to find it cheap at the auction house.

What’s New With Tailoring In Dragonflight?

WoW Dragonflight Tailoring new features

Similar to other professions, Tailoring has undergone significant changes since the last expansion. The basic gist of the profession is, of course, still the same – players gather pieces of cloth from fallen humanoid enemies or buy them from the auction house and combine them with other materials to craft various items. However, this time around there are a bunch of new features you’ll need to keep in mind while leveling up Tailoring.

Crafting Garments

Items that increase crafting skill have been in the game for a long time, but they were never as interesting as the ones found in Dragonflight. Among other things, the new Tailoring crafting interface has three slots for Profession Accessories, also known as Crafting Garments. These are special items that increase stats like Resourcefulness, Inspiration, and Multicraft, all of which will help players in their quest to become master tailors.

Resourcefulness

Resourcefulness is a pretty straightforward stat that increases the chance of using up fewer materials whenever you craft something. The higher the Resourcefulness, the higher the chance.

Inspiration

Inspiration gives players a chance to craft items of a higher quality than usual. Essentially, whenever Inspiration procs the player gains a temporary bonus to their Tailoring skill.

Multicraft

Just as its name indicates, Multicraft gives players a chance to craft additional items. Sadly, this doesn’t work for gear and bags, but it does apply to bandages, spellthreads, and reagents.

Item Quality

Item quality is exactly what it says on the tin. Every crafted item has five possible levels of quality. The higher the quality, the better the item. Increasing your Tailoring skill will allow you to craft higher quality items. As mentioned earlier, Inspiration will sometimes allow players to craft high-quality items even if their skill level is fairly low.

Recrafting

Recrafting is one of the most useful profession-related features added to Dragonflight. The feature allows players to improve items they had crafted previously and bring them closer to their current item level. Recrafting requires extra cloth and thread as well as Artisan’s Mettle, but it’s well worth the investment as the resulting items will be of higher quality.

Specializations

WoW Dragonflight Tailoring specializations

Profession specializations have been around since vanilla, but they work a bit differently in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight. For starters, specializations have skill trees that work similarly to talent trees, albeit they’re a bit more simplistic.

This time around players can learn multiple specializations, each of which has a variety of sub-specializations to choose from. Players can start learning specializations at Dragon Isles Tailoring level 25.

Dragon Isles Tailoring Knowledge

Dragon Isles Tailoring Knowledge is used to advance specializations. Knowledge points work similarly to talent points, but they can be acquired from a wide variety of sources across the Dragon Isles. Unlike talent points, however, Knowledge points are non-refundable so once they're spent, they’re gone for good. Unlearning Tailoring won’t reset Knowledge points.

Crafting Tables

Crafting tables have been added to Dragonflight more for the sake of immersion than anything else. While you can still craft a lot of items anywhere in the world, a lot of the better items require you to sit at a crafting table. This sounds a bit like an unnecessary hassle, but crafting tables can be found scattered all about the Dragon Isles and are usually located next to Tailoring trainers.

Dragonflight Tailoring Level 1-65 Guide

Wow Dragoflight Tailoring guide from 1 to 65

Now that you know the basics of Tailoring in Dragonflight it’s time to get to the good stuff. The first thing to keep in mind is that it's impossible to reach max level Tailoring just by crafting items learned from trainer or vendor recipes. Those will only increase the skill up to level 65. From there, things like farming Renown, using the new Crafting Orders system, or crafting Profession Accessories are all needed to reach 100.

Before you start leveling up Tailoring, you’ll need to grab a few things from the auction house. Namely, 5x Hochenblume, 3x Chromatic Dust, and a bunch of Wildercloth and Tattered Wildercloth. The exact quantities of those last two vary depending on whether the profession is being leveled at the same time as a character. If it is, a good portion of the mats can be obtained while questing and running dungeons. Additional mats will be needed after level 65, but we’ll cross that bridge once we get there. Let’s start with the easy part.

How To Learn Tailoring In Dragonflight

First things first, you’ll want to pick up Tailoring as soon as possible since you'll (ideally) want to start working on the profession while leveling character. Luckily, there's a trainer very close to the landing zone. After completing the first couple of quests in the starting area you’ll be sent to the Wingrest Embassy just up the hill.

Head up the stairs, turn right, and keep going until you reach the tent next to the dragon statue; the one with the glowing purple lights. Zayn Starmaker, one of the NPCs there, teaches Dragon Isles Tailoring. While there, don't hesitate to speak with Veeno and pick up Enchanting as your second profession. Tailoring and Enchanting complement each other perfectly.

Tailoring 1-15 (175x Tattered Wildercloth)

The very first thing players learn from the Tailoring Trainer is Dragon Isles Unraveling, which allows them to make Spool of Wilderthread by destroying five pieces of Wildercloth or five pieces of Tattered Wildercloth. Generally speaking, only Tattered Wildercloth should be destroyed since it can’t be used for anything else. The cheapest way to get to Tailoring level 15 is by repeatedly spinning Tattered Wildercloth into Spool of Wilderthread. It’s not worth trying to farm all of it by yourself since it’s dirt cheap at the auction house.

Tailoring 15 – 21 (13x Wildercloth, 9x Spool of Wilderthread, 5x Hochenblume)

Crafting certain items at certain levels will grant multiple Tailoring skill points and players can start taking advantage of that early on. Upon reaching level 15, craft a Surveyor’s Cloth Robe and a Willdercloth Gardening Hat, each of which will grant 3 skill points.

In addition to the usual mats, the hat also requires 5x Hochenblume, which can only be acquired via Herbalism. Hopefully, you already bought them earlier from the auction house. Let’s blaze through the next few sections since the process is largely identical.

Note: On occasion, crafting items that should only grant 2 skill points grant three instead. Keep that in mind as you may need to craft one extra or one less item than we did in order to reach the next few milestones.

Tailoring 21 – 27 (13x Wildercloth, 10x Spool of Wilderthread)

1x Wildercloth Chef’s Hat

1x Surveyor’s Tailored Cloak

Tailoring 27 – 30 (5x Wildercloth, 4x Spool of Wilderthread)

1x Wildercloth Fishing Cap

Tailoring 30 – 36 (Varies, but at most 24x Wildercloth, 18x Spool of Wilderthread)

3x Surveyor’s Seasoned Cord or 3x Wildercloth Alchemist’s Robe. Any combination of the two items will do. You just need to craft three items in total.

Tailoring 36 – 41 (11x Wildercloth, 10x Spool of Wilderthread, 3x Chromatic Dust)

1x Surveyor's Seasoned Gloves

1x Wildercloth Enchanter's Hat

Chromatic Dust can only be obtained by Enchanters. If you picked Enchanting as recommended, there's no need to worry about this. If not, it's off to the auction house.

Tailoring 41 – 46 (16x Wildercloth, 12x Spool of Wilderthread)

2x Surveyor’s Seasoned Shoulders

Alternatively, you can craft 2x Wildercloth Bag but it will cost more mats. One bag requires 4x Spool of Wilderthread and 12x Wildercloth Bolt. A bolt can be created by combining three pieces of Wildercloth, so that's 36x Wildercloth per bag plus the thread.

Tailoring 46 – 51 (20x Wildercloth, 14x Spool of Wilderthread)

3x Surveyor’s Seasoned Pants

Tailoring 51 – 65 (Industrial Quantities of Mats)

From this point onward, stick to crafting Surveyor’s Seasoned Hoods up to level 65. It’s impossible to say exactly how many mats are needed since it’s heavily dependent on RNG, but it's definitely going to be a lot. Enchanters can also make some Vibrant Spellthread with all those extra Vibrant Shards they have lying around, however, that won’t necessarily increase their chances of getting skill points faster.

Dragonflight Tailoring 65 – 100 Guide

From here on out, it’s largely a matter of preference. The recipes needed to get to 100 can be purchased from various vendors, found at the auction house, or unlocked via specializations. Crafting many of these recipes will cost an arm and a leg, so we recommend using the Crafting Orders system since there's no need to provide the materials yourself. However, you’ll still need to acquire the recipe in order to craft the items.

Some recipes will help players get to 100 faster than others, but it’s possible theyr won’t have a ton of options to choose from. Depending on the server, the number of available crafting orders can range from just a couple to several dozen or more. Unfortunately, those playing on a low-population server will likely need to craft most of the items themselves. If you do end up having to craft items using your own mats, these are the best patterns to focus on:

Frozen Spellthread (Up to around level 80+)

Reagents needed: 1x Awakened Frost, 2x Awakened Order, 1x Azureweave Bolt. The Frozen Spellthread pattern is sold by Steiz in The Azure Span. Requires Cobalt Assembly Power Level: High (4/5)

Temporal Spellthread (Up to around level 80+)

Reagents needed: 1x Awakened Air, 2x Awakened Order, 1x Chronocloth Bolt. The Temporal Spellthread pattern is a random world drop that can also be purchased from the auction house.

Dragoncloth Tailoring Vestments (Up to 100)

Reagents needed: 55x Artisan’s Mettle, 1x Vibrant Spellthread, 3x Chronocloth Bolt, 3x Azureweave Bolt. The Dragoncloth Tailoring Vestments pattern unlocks after investing 20 Knowledge points into Garmentcrafting’s ‘Outfits’ sub-specialization.

Players will want to keep one of these for themselves. Chronocloth Bolt and Azureweave Bolt are easy enough to craft once the appropriate Specializations have been leveled up, but there's a limit to how many of these items can be crafted per day.

Master Wildercloth Enchanter’s Hat (Up to 100)

Reagents needed: 55x Artisan’s Mettle, 2x Resonant Crystal, 30x Spool of Wilderthread, 5x Vibrant Wildercloth Bolt. The Master Wildercloth Enchanter's Hat pattern is sold by Dothenos in Valdrakken. Requires Renown 14 with the Valdrakken Accord.

Players with Enchanting will want to keep one of these for themselves. Enchanters will have a much easier time acquiring some of the required items.

Master Wildercloth Chef’s Hat (Up to 100)

Reagents needed: 55x Artisan’s Mettle, 30x Spool of Wilderthread, 6x Vibrant Wildercloth Bolt. The Master Wildercloth Chef's Hat pattern is sold by Cataloger Jakes in the Dragonscale Basecamp in The Waking Shores. Requires Renown 15 with the Dragonscale Expedition.

This one is the easiest Crafting Garments to make as it doesn’t require any particularly exotic mats. Again, players with Enchanting will have an easier time crafting items like these.
