Before Cataclysm, expansions in World of Warcraft meant a whole new continent for players to explore. This time, all of Azeroth has been remastered, but one thing that's the same is the questlines and leveling required to unlock them.

The new zones, which include PvP areas and several new dungeons, are located in Old Azeroth along with new areas beneath the earth's crust and deep in the ocean. It's only a matter of leveling up and visiting the new bulletin board that can be found in each Faction's major city. Look for Warchief's Command! for the Horde or the Alliance quest Hero's Call! to unlock the quest lines.

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic - How To Get The Flight Master's License (Both Factions)

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic has introduced the ability to fly on a mount throughout Azeroth, but players will need a license.

Characters can visit some of these new locations before reaching the optimum level and unlocking the quests, but players need to remember that they aren't at max level anymore. Be careful and exercise caution if you plan to do some farming or grinding in a high-level zone.

The Bulletin Board

Pick Up New Quests In One Central Location

  • Check here for new quests as your character progresses

A new addition to the capital cities of both Stormwind and Orgrimmar, this is an easy way to start exploring the new zones. Interact with the board and choose what zone you want to visit first, and you'll get a quest that will direct you to the NPC that takes you there.

The first trip to a zone is often part of a larger storyline, and starts a series of quests that give the player a chance to experience the whole zone. There are Achievements available for exploring a zone thoroughly and for doing a quota of quests in each zone, so it's worth exploring every one. However, there is a method to this madness, and some zones are more difficult to unlock than others.

Most of these locations are accessible just for sightseeing or farming resources, regardless of the character's level, but the quests and storylines won't be accessible yet. Once your character finishes the initial few quests to the zone, flight paths and portals are available as transportation.

Mount Hyjal

A Mysterious Central Zone Is Finally Revealed

  • How To Unlock: Be level 80 or higher and take the quest, "Hero's Call / Warchief's Command: Mount Hyjal!"
  • Faction: Guardians Of Hyjal
  • New Instance: Blackrock Caverns

When level 80 players first visit the new bulletin board in their own major city, they'll have a choice of two locations, either Mount Hyjal or Vashj'ir. For those who are playing a caster, the Guardians of Hyjal Provisioner has the Arcanum of Hyjal, as well as other certain important items, which is incentive to choose them first.

The journey begins with a ride to Moonglade and then continues to Mount Hyjal, the same location where Archimonde tried to destroy the World Tree. The same forces that defeated him are your allies again, and the quest chain contains a lot of ancient lore that goes back to the earliest stories of Azeroth.

Vashj'ir

World of Warcraft's Underwater Level

  • How To Unlock: Be level 80 or higher and take with the quest, "Hero's Call / Warchief's Command: Vasj'ir!"
  • Faction: Earthen Ring
  • New Instance: Throne of the Tides

Whether or not you like Cataclysm's "underwater level" this is a great place to start grinding to 85, not only for the experience points but the professions. Mow down various humanoid enemies for coveted Embersilk, find various rare herbs, harvest various typse of fish for Cooking, and more.

Neptulon, the lord of water, is threatening the denizens of the briny deep and their allies, and it's up to the player to stop him. The first trip to this zone is a dramatic story involving a shipwreck, and a running theme throughout your adventures here is aiding other survivors, but after that the portal is a much easier way to travel.

  • How To Unlock: Reach level 83 and take the quest "Hero's Call / Warchief's Command: Deepholm!"
  • Faction: The Earthen Ring, Therazane
  • New Instance: The Stonecore

Begin this quest chain with "A Personal Summons" which involves a dramatic scene with Thrall, the former Warchief of the Horde, as he uses his Shamanic powers to commune with the elements. This quest is available at level 82, but the quests for the zone itself aren't available until level 83.

This unlocks a portal that leads directly to the Temple of Earth in Deepholm, and unlike other zones, there is no flight path or open sky that can be taken as an alternative. Deepholm is shaped like a circle, and the quests through the zone run clockwise starting on the eastern side and finally ending in the north at the Throne of Therazane.

Uldum

The Home of the Harrison Jones Quests

For Horde members, their contact is Belloc Brightblade, a Blood Elf in the warchief's Hold in Orgrimmar, while Alliance players can speak to Harrison Jones in Stormwind Keep. Their mission is to escort a caravan through the perilous deserts of Uldum, fighting giant insects and ancient ghosts, until they reach their destination.

Of course, the journey goes awry, and the whole caravan is taken prisoner and held in a part of the Lost City of Tol'Vir. Harrison Jones meets the player here as well, regardless of their faction, and following his quest line is a fun way to explore the zone.

  • Factions: Dragonmaw Orcs, Wilidhammer Dwarves, and the Red Dragonflight
  • New Instance: Grim Batol and The Bastion of Twilight

After pursuing the Twilight's Hammer through several other zones, it's finally time to hit them where they live. The introductory quests for the Twilight Highlands actually start in your Faction's home city and eventually evolve into a full incursion to the zone.

Cultists have infiltrated certain parts of town, and the player has to search through the dark alleys and manual laborers to stop them. Once they do, it's time to journey to the eastern coast of the Eastern Kingdoms, the location of the Twilight Highlands. Alliance players land at Highbank, while Horde players start by defending Dragonmaw Port.

Tol Barad

The New PvP Zone

Tol_Barad_loading_screen cataclysm wow
  • How To Unlock: Be level 80-85
  • Faction: Baradin's Wardens
  • New Instance: Baradin Hold

Created and organized in a similar way to Winterspring, the island of Tol Barad is accessible via a portal in either Stormwind or Orgrimmar for any player level 80 and up. Baradin Hold is the internal raid that is only open to the faction that currently has possession of the zone.

The raid is easily accessible via a portal, and it's in the same location as the others that lead to the new open zones. The obscure Faction that takes responsibility for the fortress, Baradin's Wardens, offers two Epic mounts once the player reaches Exalted, so don't overlook this raid just because it's behind a PvP wall.
