The world of anime has plenty of teachers that have become iconic in their own right. From Master Roshi in the Dragon Ball series to Aizawa in My Hero Academia, teachers have done a lot to make sure their students are ready for just about anything. Some of their methods might be questionable, but it’s worked out for their students in the end.

However, this doesn’t mean that all teachers in anime are good at what they do. Teaching is a tough job, but these teachers are awful in various ways, whether it’s bullying their own students or just poor teaching methods. If students are looking for a great teacher, it’s best to avoid these.

10 Kimura — Azumanga Daioh

Kimura from Azumanga Daioh

Kimura downright creepy — he admits to becoming a teacher to get closer to high school girls. He openly gawks at them, usually during swim class or when they’re being examined by the nurse. Female teachers and students greatly dislike him because of this, but he still has a job somehow. He asks the female students to call him cute nicknames, and even tells Kagura he likes her because she was wearing gym shorts.

He has a beautiful wife and a cute daughter, but they’re unaware of his behavior at work. It’s a real mystery why he hasn’t been reported yet. His behavior is mostly used for comedy, but it's still creepy to know a grown man is attracted to his underaged students.

9 Koichi Shido — High School Of The Dead

Koichi Shido from Highschool of the Dead

Both before and after the zombie apocalypse, Koichi Shido has no redeeming qualities. Before the outbreak, he was known as a villainous teacher and purposely held Rei back because her father was investigating his father. After the outbreak, he has sacrificed students he viewed as weak, and believed only the strong deserve to survive.

His group consists of students that he’s managed to brainwash, and has convinced them that they need to repopulate the world. He’s also not afraid to use them as human shields if it means keeping himself safe.

8 Endeavor — My Hero Academia

Endeavor from My Hero Academia

It’s a good thing he’s not a teacher at UA, because Endeavor’s attempts at teaching have poor results. First, he messed up teaching his eldest child Touya, AKA Dabi. He made him suffer through a brutal training regimen, making him think he needed to be number one to succeed. He broke Touya’s spirit by shifting his attention to Shouto after he was born, no longer believing in his eldest. After he and the family thought Touya died, he put Shouto through the same training and was just as abusive towards his younger child and his wife.

Because of the way he treated them, his family is all but broken. His wife had to be placed in a psychiatric hospital, Touya became the villainous Dabi, and Shouto wants little to do with him and is hesitant to use his fire powers. Endeavor is trying to make amends, but the past is still clear in his family’s minds.

7 Gambino — Berserk

Gambino from Berserk

Berserk is one of the most intense and dark anime series of all time. Guts’ adopted father Gambino isn’t a teacher in the traditional sense, but he is the one who taught Guts to fight. However, he trained Guts in combat when he was six years old, and had Guts fight in his first battle at nine.

To make matters worse, he was very abusive towards Guts, and blamed him for any bad thing that happened. A lot of Gambino's words and actions played a huge part in making Guts an incredibly strong man, but gave him some serious mental issues.

6 Askeladd — Vinland Saga

Askeladd from Vinland Saga

To say Askeladd and Thorfinn’s relationship is complicated would be a huge understatement. Askeladd assassinated Thorfinn’s father, yet let Thorfinn travel with him knowing the younger man wanted to kill him. Askeladd does take up a mentoring role, but he’s pretty cruel to Thorfinn. He’s not bothered or concerned if Thorfinn goes missing. Even if he comes back, Askeladd is rather indifferent to him.

He knows Thorfinn won’t kill him using underhanded methods, but this doesn’t stop from taunting him from time to time. Their relationship has many layers, but it doesn’t change that Askeladd killed Thorfinn’s father dishonorably and tried to manipulate Thorfinn at times.

5 Yoshihito Usaida — Gakuen Babysitters (School Babysitters)

Yoshihito Usaida from Gakuen Babysitters

How Usaida still has a job as head of the babysitters club is a mystery. He sleeps on the job and the kids are seen running around. They also leave the room while he's sleeping or distracted. He’s lucky none of the kids have gotten into serious trouble or kidnapped. His laziness has gotten him into trouble with his coworkers, but he doesn’t suffer any consequences for it.

He does care for the kids, having checked on them when he was seriously ill, but that doesn’t excuse his overall behavior. Ryu and Kamitani, along with others students, have had to pick up Usaida’s slack quite often.

4 Mr. Iwamoto — Yu Yu Hakusho

Mr. Iwamoto from Yu Yu Hakusho

He only appears in a few episodes, but fans of Yu Yu Hakusho can agree that Mr. Iwamoto is the worst. When Yusuke died, Iwamoto viewed this as a good thing and was even happy about it. He tried to get Yusuke expelled and told Mr. Akashi to change Kuwabara’s test answers to fail him. He openly insults Yusuke, and wasn’t happy when Yusuke came back to life.

Somehow he managed to stay employed through the whole series, even after he was caught trying to frame Yusuke. Plus, he was one of many people who got infected by the Makai insects and nearly killed Keiko and Botan.

3 Azami Nakiri — Food Wars! Shokugeki No Soma

Azami Nakiri from Food Wars Shokugeki No Soma

Erina’s father certainly stands out among the colorful cast of characters in Food Wars! He came into season three with a plan to change the culinary world, but not for the better. He eliminated all food clubs and expelled students who didn’t fit into his vision. He laid out a strict regimen for students to follow, and any who went against it were expelled.

He trained his daughter Erina at a very young age, and wasn’t above using physical force to make her comply. His training left her psychologically scarred so much that she freezes up whenever he appears.

2 Gaku Yashiro — Erased

Gaku Yashiro from Erased

This man has been killing since he was a child and has managed to cover his tracks. He’s kidnapped and killed multiple students and framed others for his crimes. He made it seem like he was out to help Satoru discover who was responsible, but was the one responsible for everything.

There's no reason behind his motivation for killing, which makes him a pretty terrifying character. Nobody like him should be in a teaching position.

1 Mizuki — Naruto

Mizuki from Naruto

The first antagonist of the Naruto series, Mizuki became a teacher for all the wrong reasons. He was incredibly jealous of Iruka after the latter lost his parents. During a mission, Mizuki killed one of his comrades who suffered a leg injury, because he believed the injury would be a hindrance. He convinced Naruto to steal the Scroll of Seals for him, and revealed that he is the Nine-Tails’ jinchuriki.

He’d been denied a position as an instructor at the Academy once, but somehow became one. What makes it a little sad is that Mizuki still doesn’t seem to think he’d done anything wrong. He believes that all the bad things that have happened to him are Naruto and Iruka’s fault.
