Professions in World Of Warcraft: Dragonflight have seen a significant overhaul when compared to previous expansions, offering some exciting new changes that have revitalized crafting. Blacksmithing has always been one of the most popular professions, allowing players to gear their characters with their own creations, as well as make nice amounts of gold through the Auction house.

While Blacksmithing has evolved a lot since the early days of World of Warcraft, at its heart, it still follows the same basic principle. Blacksmiths can turn ore, gathered through mining, into a variety of plate armor, weapons, and items that will help with other professions. At first glance, Blacksmithing in World Of Warcraft: Dragonflight can seem a little daunting, but by following some simple tips, a player will be hammering away at the forge in no time.

7 Increase Item Quality

The first big change in Blacksmithing is the new UI, which adds a number of new aspects that will affect the item that is crafted. The quality of the item will determine how high the item level of the creation will be, with the quality of the ore also contributing toward the standard of the finished product.

Quality is determined by the number of diamonds found in the left corner of a recipe. Item quality will increase as the player spends profession knowledge points in the Blacksmithing Specializations tab. Ultimately, the more a player crafts, the better the items will become. A great way to earn knowledge points is by crafting a new item for the first time, which will also award Artisan’s Mettle, a key reagent for Blacksmithing.

6 Gain Knowledge Points

Blacksmiths will spend knowledge points in their Specialization trees to unlock several crafting benefits. Knowledge points can be gained through several ways, including profession quests and profession world quests that unlock at level 68. Exploring the Dragon Isles and discovering one-time treasures will also grant knowledge points.

Blacksmiths can farm or craft Draconic Treatise on Blacksmithing, although only one can be used per week. A player can purchase the Dusty Blacksmith’s Diagrams for 100 Artisan’s Mettle from Rabul in Valdrakken, with the price increasing after every purchase. This item provides ten knowledge points, which is the most that can be granted from a single item. The availability of this item depends on the Artisan’s Consortium reputation level of the character.

The Master of Their Craft questline, which ends with Khadin in the Ohn’ahran Plains, rewards a Dragon Shard of Knowledge. This item, which provides one knowledge point and 50 Artisan’s Mettle, can also drop from Elites, which can also be turned in with Khadin.

5 Add Optional Reagents

Crafted items have a standard recipe, each with the option of adding a secondary reagent to increase the quality. Adding optional reagents increase the difficulty of the recipe, which will come with a recommended skill level. If a player doesn’t have the skill level stated, they can still craft the item, although the quality of the armor or gear will be reflected.

Optional reagents allow a crafter to choose the secondary stat of an item, increase the item level, and add bonus effects. This versatility enables a Blacksmith to cater for a specific class and spec. Optional reagents, like the Titan Training Matrix, have a chance of dropping from rare mobs found all around the Dragon Isles. While items using optional reagents will bind on equip, Blacksmiths can create gear and weapons for other players through the crafting order system.

4 Collect Crucial Reagents

Blacksmiths looking to improve their trade will want to become well-versed in the key reagents of the profession. Most reagents will come from the Mining skill, which will provide the valuable ore that can be used in crafting gear, weapons, and the Alloys that are required for more advanced plans.

Serevite Ore is a basic ore that can be found throughout the Dragon Isles, while Draconium Ore can be discovered more frequently as a player's Mining skill increases. The rarest ore in World Of Warcraft: Dragonflight is Khaz'gorite Ore, which is used for crafting more powerful items.

Some of the key Blacksmithing reagents can only be crafted, such as the Frostfire Alloy, which uses Awakened Frost, Infurious Alloy, which requires an Ire-Infused Alloy, Primal Molten Alloy, which is needed for higher level Blacksmith Plans, and Obsidian Seared Alloy, which can only be made at the Earth Warder's Forge in Dragonbane Keep.

3 Use Profession Equipment

Utilizing profession equipment is a great way to increase the effectiveness of Blacksmithing, which includes items such as the Draconium Blacksmith's Toolbox, Flameproof Apron, and the Khaz'gorite Blacksmith's Hammer. These items will provide a variety of helpful crafting bonuses.

The types of bonuses included in profession equipment can include Multicraft, which increases the odds of creating more items, Crafting Speed, which increases the time it takes to craft, Resourcefulness, which can reduce the number of reagents needed, and Inspiration, which can increase the quality of a crafted item.

2 Make Gold Through Profession Crafting Orders

A new crafting system added with World Of Warcraft: Dragonflight is the Crafting Orders system, which allows Blacksmiths and other crafters to fulfill order requests from other players. Similar to the Auction house UI, players who submit a request for a specific piece of gear or weapon will pay the Blacksmith for creating the item using their reagents.

Completing Crafting Orders is a great way to make gold, and it costs the crafter nothing to participate in, as the reagents are supplied by the customer. Crafting Orders also grant the skill points that the recipe would usually offer the Blacksmith when crafting items for themselves. The items created through the Crafting Order allow secondary stats to be implemented, making them more desirable for specific classes and specs.

1 Recraft Items To Make Them Better

Crafted items can be later recrafted, allowing a piece of Blacksmith gear or weapon to be improved. Recrafting can increase an item's level and stats for a fraction of the cost it would if the item had to be made from scratch.

After recrafting an item, the secondary stats cannot be changed unless specific optimal reagents are used. Other players, who are not Blacksmiths, can use the Crafting Order system to recraft their gear. Unlike the Public Crafting Orders, recrafting can only be done through Personal Crafting Orders, which means the Blacksmith will have to work with a specific player they have come in contact with.
