  • The Blackrock Eruption event in WoW Classic Phase 4 offers PvP challenges with additional enemies and environmental hazards.
  • PvP kills within Blackrock Mountain during the event will grant massive Honor bonus, but no honor is awarded in other areas.

World of Warcraft Classic has officially revealed the Blackrock Eruption, a new world event coming in Season of Discovery Phase 4. With separate locations and incentives for both PvE and PvP, this new World of Warcraft activity will have something in it for every player.

Season of Discovery is World of Warcraft Classic’s most recent experiment that introduces a multitude of changes to the retro game mode. In addition to game-changing Rune engravings, raid versions of iconic dungeons, and powerful new World of Warcraft gear, each of its three phases has also added new world events: the Battle for Ashenvale in Phase 1, the Blood Moon in Phase 2, and Nightmare Incursions in Phase 3.

Evidence suggests World of Warcraft Classic players may have an easier time gaining access to certain raids in Season of Discovery Phase 4.

Now, WoW Classic has officially revealed Season of Discovery Phase 4's world event. Called the Blackrock Eruption, this event takes place every other hour. While active, additional enemies and environmental hazards spawn in the Searing Gorge, and in the Burning Steppes during a later update. These challenges, as well as daily quests from Thorium Point, will provide an avenue to earn gold and reputation with the Thorium Brotherhood and Hydraxian Waterlords.

Blackrock Eruption Event in WoW Classic Season of Discovery Phase 4

  • Bihourly event that spawns extra enemies and environmental hazards in the Searing Gorge.
  • Daily quests from Thorium Point that award gold and reputation with the Thorium Brotherhood and Hydraxian Waterlords.
  • Large Honor bonus to PvP kills while inside Blackrock Mountain.
    • No Honor is awarded for PvP kills in the Burning Steppes or Searing Gorge.

This event also has a PvP aspect to it. During a Blackrock Eruption, players will receive a massive bonus to Honor when killing characters of the opposite faction – but only while within Blackrock Mountain. Killing players in the Searing Gorge or Burning Steppes will award no honor during the event, incentivizing world PvP to only take place within the appointed area. This keeps PvP and PvE in separate places in the event, and will let fans choose how they want to play.

Like WoW Classic senior game producer Josh “Aggrend” Greenfield said before the activity was officially announced, Blackrock Eruptions sound quite different from previous events. The Battle for Ashenvale and Blood Moon events both incentivized PvE and PvP to take place side by side, while Nightmare Incursions was purely PvE. Blackrock Eruptions, on the other hand, appear to be a promising iteration of its predecessors, featuring activities for all kinds of players. Fans will have to see how Blackrock Eruptions play once the event goes live in Phase 4 of Season of Discovery when it finally comes to World of Warcraft Classic.
