A World of Warcraft fan is showing off the game on Xbox, using Nvidia's GeForce NOW streaming service to play the beloved MMORPG on the Microsoft console. Since the game first debuted in 2004, the MMORPG from Blizzard Entertainment has grown into one of the most recognized and popular online games in the world. Even two decades after its launch, the game is still said to boast millions of active players and World of Warcraft's next expansion is even on the way later this year. Now, the Blizzard game is technically available on a new platform for the first time.

Despite being one of the most popular MMORPGs, World of Warcraft has never seen an official version aside from its PC release. The franchise has debuted a litany of spinoffs on mobile devices like Hearthstone and Warcraft Rumble, though the main game remains exclusively available on PC. The lack of a console version of World of Warcraft comes as some of its biggest competitors like Final Fantasy 14 have pushed versions on multiple platforms. Now, however, a recent update to GeForce Now gives players a new way to play the game on Xbox.

World of Warcraft Now Technically Playable on Xbox

The introduction of World of Warcraft to GeForce NOW comes as Blizzard has discussed the idea of bringing the game to consoles more in recent months. During an April interview, executive producer Holly Longdale gave the vague answer of "nothing's impossible" when asked about the potential for a version of World of Warcraft on consoles. World of Warcraft had also been previously linked to Microsoft through the developer's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, bringing the MMORPG under the Microsoft umbrella.

The GeForce NOW version of World of Warcraft serves as the long-awaited first appearance of the game on consoles as it gears up for its next expansion. The War Within is expected to launch later this year with the beta test for the World of Warcraft expansion beginning next week. The War Within will reportedly majorly streamline World of Warcraft's Skyriding system, as well as introduce a new explorable area with the continent of Khaz Algar. Between a new expansion and a playable Xbox version through GeForce NOW, World of Warcraft fans have plenty to look forward to.
