World of Warcraft is giving players who bought The War Within Epic Edition a bonus in the form of three extra storm rook Battle Pets. These baby gryphons are recolors of Squally, the Battle Pet they already received for buying the premium World of Warcraft edition, and will be obtainable via a quest during the Pre-Patch for The War Within.

The Epic Edition of The War Within is the most expensive digital version World of Warcraft players can get of the upcoming expansion. Featuring a $90 price tag, this massive bundle includes tons of goodies, including guaranteed beta access, 30 days of game time, early access to the expansion itself, and tons of in-game collectibles.

Blizzard Fans Should Keep an Eye on Gamescom 2024

Now that it is a part of Microsoft, Blizzard Entertainment is attending Gamescom 2024 for the first time ever as a part of the Xbox showcase.

However, it seems like fans who bought this premium edition are getting a few extra things once the Pre-Patch for The War Within begins. Players with the Epic Edition already have access to Squally, a blue storm rook Battle Pet, in the game right now. Once The War Within’s Pre-Patch comes to World of Warcraft, these fans will be able to earn Flash, Gale, and Thundo – a red, purple, and yellow recolors of Squally – by completing a short quest.

After the Pre-Patch arrives, fans will find Kurdran Wildhammer in Valdrakken, who offers the Gryphons of a Feather quest. The Dwarf informs players that Squally misses her friends before sending them to seek out the wayward gryphons scattered across the Dragon Isles. Once fans find all three of them, they can complete the quest by summoning Squally once more, after which the other three Battle Pets will be added to their collections.

Gryphons of a Feather Stormrook Battle Pet Locations

  • Flash (red) – The Waking Shores, flying around the lava pools atop Scalecracker Peak.
  • Gale (purple) – The Ohn’ahran Plains, resting by a pond near the top of Ohn’ahra’s Roost.
  • Thundo (yellow) – Thaldraszus, playing with baby Storm Dragons by Stormshroud Peak.

Were these adorable Battle Pets not charming enough on their own, they also have unique animations when summoned. Wowhead captured these special flourishes for each of the four stormrooks, compiling them into a short video.

While the Pre-Patch doesn't have an official date yet, a July 23 launch has all but been confirmed via a datamined splash screen and the cessation of several paid World of Warcraft game services on July 22. Players with the Collector’s Edition won’t be able to pick up these new pets right away, as they will need to enter their code when the physical product ships before The War Within launches in August. That said, these fans can buy the Epic Edition to get these digital items immediately, and get the $90 immediately refunded as Battle.net balance.
