Some of these abilities are changing in more ways than just visually. Covenant abilities that specifically refer to Shadowlands elements are being renamed to better fit each class’ fantasy, like Spear of Bastion becoming Champion’s Spear and Faeline Stomp becoming Jadefire Stomp. A few are even having their gameplay effects changed, such as Shifting Power dealing Arcane damage instead of Nature, letting them better synergize with certain class builds.

Fans are excited about these new visual updates. Though Shadowlands was a divisive expansion, the Covenant abilities were both powerful and fun to use, and players were glad to see many of them make their way into the talent trees. However, the jarring visuals they used made them stand out from the rest of each class kit, and even caused some players to avoid taking the abilities completely. This update makes these World of Warcraft abilities fit better visually and mechanically, making them even better tools in each class kit.

This change will be even more important once The War Within comes out. The next expansion adds Hero Talents to World of Warcraft, which will also include visual changes to certain abilities that let characters embody iconic classes from the game’s long history. Between Hero Talents and these updated Shadowlands Covenant ability visuals, World of Warcraft players will soon have a whole new look on the battlefield.
