Highlights

  • World of Warcraft's new expansion, The War Within, will include the Dynamic Flying system which allows players to fly on mounts. All abilities and traits associated with Dragonriding will be included in this system.
  • Players will no longer need to collect Glyphs to unlock Dragonriding abilities, as they will be automatically available once they unlock Dynamic Flying.
  • The War Within expansion will be a great opportunity for players who missed out on Dragonflight to experience the full Dragonriding system, as it will become a baseline feature in the game.

World of Warcraft is removing Dragonriding Glyphs and Talents from the game in The War Within, instead giving players all of their abilities for free. Rather than needing to collect Glyphs from across the Dragon Isles, World of Warcraft players will get all the traits and skills natively as soon as they unlock Dynamic Flying.

During BlizzCon, World of Warcraft revealed The War Within, the first of three expansions that are a part of WoW's new Worldsoul Saga. The expansion will introduce tons of new features to the game, not the least of which is Dynamic Flying–the evergreen evolution of Dragonriding that World of Warcraft is carrying forward from Dragonflight.

However, it seems the new and improved Dynamic Flying system will be leaving behind a staple from Dragonflight’s Dragonriding. World of Warcraft content creator MrGM interviewed production director Michael Bybee and senior game designer Sean McCann at BlizzCon, during which he asked about Dynamic Flying. At the two-minute mark, Bybee confirmed Glyphs and Dragonriding Traits will be baked into the base Dynamic Flying experience in The War Within.

“It’s just going to be part of Dynamic Flying. It’ll just be part of the kit. If you have Dynamic Flying, on any of the mounts that can use Dynamic flying–which is a lot of them, but not every one–you’ll just have all of those abilities, including the ones that are coming out in 10.2.”

Players knew Dynamic Flying was going to be carried over into The War Within, and that World of Warcraft was letting tons of new mounts use the new system. However, considering Dragonflight is becoming the new baseline leveling experience in World of Warcraft, most assumed players would still have to collect the Glyphs once on their account. The fact that all of these abilities–including the traits added in World of Warcraft Patch 10.2–are becoming baseline features of Dynamic Flying means The War Within will be a great time for players who missed Dragonflight to experience the full system.

It remains to be seen how new players will unlock Dynamic Flying after The War Within. Right now, World of Warcraft players automatically unlock normal Flying until level 30, and Dragonriding in Dragonflight at level 60. That said, since the new expansion may put characters on the Dragon Isles by level 10, it is possible players may be able to fly earlier in The War Within, especially considering how hard traversing the Dragon Isles would be without it.

Either way, World of Warcraft fans can look forward to improvements to Dragonriding soon. In Patch 10.2.5, World of Warcraft is adding Dragonriding to the rest of the world, and in The War Within, hundreds of new mounts, including Druid Flight forms, will be able to use Dynamic Flying as well. It seems traversing the skies of Azeroth will soon be better than ever before.
