World of Warcraft is never a static game. With every patch and expansion, Azeroth changes. There is always a new thing to discover just that next corner and, with nearly 20 years worth of content in the game, players will be kept busy for quite some time.

But to mix things up, Blizzard occasionally adds content that is different from the usual dungeons or raids. During Dragonflight, Blizzard added a unique event called Secrets of Azeroth that was gradually unlocked over the course of two weeks. Unlike other events like Hallow's End, Secrets of Azeroth will remain in the game for the foreseeable future, so the unique rewards can be obtained at any time. It is important to note that at certain points there will be multiple quests available at once. This guide covers them in the order in which they were originally released.

What to Expect From World of Warcraft in 2024

2024 will mark the World of Warcraft's 20th year, and Blizzard seems to have a lot of plans to make this year one of the game's best yet.

How to Start the Secrets of Azeroth

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide2

In order to start this lengthy series of quests, head to The Roasted Ram in Valdrakken. There, you will see an NPC named Preservationist Kathos. Accept her quest and then speak to her again to receive an item in your inventory called A Mystery Box. Open it to receive a Golden Chalice and a clue about where the Golden Chalice must be placed. To learn more, speak with the Innkeeper and ask if he recognizes the chalice. He flat out tells you to take it to the bank in Valdrakken.

Enter the bank and look to the left where all the treasure is piled up. There will be a faded yellow outline of a chalice. Right-click on this spot to place the Golden Chalice and then return to Preservationist Kathos. She will offer a new quest.

Tuskarr Ceremonial Spear

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide3

Rather than offering another quest, Preservationist Kathos gives you a Tuskarr Ceremonial Spear that she wants to be returned to its rightful owners. Take the spear to Iskaara, which is on the southwest edge of the Azure Span. Speak with Elder Poa and ask about the spear. It turns out that the spear belongs to a different group of Tuskarr in Northrend. Take a boat or zepplin to Borean Tundra and head to the Plains of Nasam on the west side of Warsong Hold. Just like with the Golden Chalice, there will be a spot where you can place the spear as depicted above.

The Thinking Cap

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide4

While this may seem like the end of the Secrets of Azeroth event, you are just getting started. Return to The Roasted Ram and talk to Bobby Carlisle. He gives you a list of items needed to craft a Thinking Cap. The items are Thought Calculating Apparatus, Downy Helmet Liner, and Crystal Occular Lenses.

The Thought Calculating Apparatus is a little more complex and time-consuming to acquire, as you will have to get 10 Thunderspine Nests which can only be made by Erugosa in The Roasted Ram. Talk to her to receive a shopping list. Fortunately, you don't necessarily have to go out and get the ingredients. If you want to save time, you can purchase the Thunderspine Nests from the Auction House. Prices will, of course, vary.

Regardless of how you get the Thunderspine Nests, take them to the Engineer Trainer in Valdrakken and ask about the Thinking Cap. Trade the Thunderspine Nests to receive the Thought Calculating Apparatus. Just like with the Thought Calculating Apparatus, players can acquire the Crystal Occular Lenses through two methods. The first is to pay 1,000 gold to Shakey Flatlap, the Jewelcrafting Supplies vendor in Valdrakken.

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide5

Alternatively, players can also get the Crystal Occular Lenses for cheaper by accessing the secret inn in Valdrakken. To do so, find the statue of a dragon in The Roasted Ram. Target it and /bow to be transported to another inn. Talk to the Barkeep in this secret area about Shakey Flatlap. Apparently, he owes the inn some money. 346 gold, 43 silver, and 58 copper to be exact. If you pay this, Shakey Flatlap will give you the Crystal Occular Lenses for free.

The Downy Helmet Liner will require you to obtain a Fresh Tyranha by killing Hungering Tyranhas in the waters southwest of Valdrakken. Take the Fresh Tyranha to the griffin with a wrench in its mouth that is to the right of the Engineering trainer. With all three items, right-click on the Thought Calculating Appartus to start a quest. Talk to Fangli Hoot to receive the Tricked-Out Thinking Cap toy.

Thinking Cap Tutorial

After acquiring the Tricked-Out Thinking Cap, the first thing you will want to do is equip it and then talk to Fangli Hoot again. Accept the quest she offers, and then an arrow will appear. This arrow points in the direction of the next arrow. When interacting with an arrow, it will give a clue as to where the next arrow is.

When you have the Thinking Cap equipped, a set of coordinates appears at the top of the screen. Pay attention to what the clue on each arrow says, as they give coordinates for the location of the next clue.

In order to complete this quest, you will need to find every arrow. Excluding the one you find by talking to Fangli Hoot, the arrows can be found at the following locations.

  1. Inside The Little Scales Daycare.
  2. Next to the Letherworking Supplies vendor at The Artisan's Market.
  3. On a barrel to the right of the building where the Jewelcrafting Trainer is.
  4. To the right of the Alchemy Trainer.
  5. On the roof of the auction house.
  6. To the right of the entrance to the building where the Blacksmith Supplies vendor is.
  7. Just inside the Seat of the Aspects on the left, right next to a fire.
  8. On a rock at the Emerald Conclave.

At the last clue, there will be a bag that you can pick up. Take this to Fangli Hoot to complete the quest. To begin the next part of this event, return to the Roasted Ram and talk to Bobby Carlisle who will offer the quest "An Inside Job?". To progress this quest, return to Fangli Hoot and talk to her.

Next, go to the second floor of the Roasted Ram. There will be a chest on the left side of one of the large beds on this floor. Open it with the key you received from Fangli Hoot.

Once you have opened the chest, enter the building at the location depicted above and speak to Sazsel Stickyfingers. She offers a new quest that requires you to return the item back to the chest on the second floor of the Roasted Ram and then speak to Fangil Hoot.

The next quest, Securing an Artifact, is started by talking to Tithris in the Roasted Ram. After taking the quest, go to the northmost edge of the Waking Shores where the Life-Binder Conservatory is located. Upon arriving, equip the Thinking Cap and look for levers in the building depicted above. Activate this lever and then go north toward the ruined tower, and inside of it will be the second switch. The third and final switch is in a building north of the tower with a bunch of shelves in it.

After that, go west towards the ruins of an inn. Look inside the fireplace and to the left to spot a massive torch that can be interacted with. Loot it to begin a new quest called Artifact Secured. Return to Preservationist Kathos in the Roasted Ram in Valdrakken to turn the quest in and receive the Torch of Pyrreth. The Torch of Pyrreth is a toy, so make sure to add it to your collection as you will need it for the next quest.

Kathos will offer you a new quest that teaches you how to use the Torch of Pyrreth. To complete this quest, go to the Ruby Enclave and enter a small building where Gardener Cerecus sells supplies. If you have the Torch of Pyrreth out, it will reveal a chest in this building. Loot it and take the contents back to Kathos. Once this is done, talk to Bobby Carlisle in the Roasted Ram to get a new quest called A Chilling Ascent.

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide8

Go to Vakthros in Azure Span. At the bottom of the tower where the teleport pad is, there will be a large door. From here, go right toward the pillar with the glowing blue dome while you have the Torch of Pyrreth equipped. Eventually, a tablet will appear at the base. Examine it to start a new quest called A Knowledgeable Descent. To complete this quest, simply take your findings to Bobby Carlisle in Valdrakken.

The Idol of Ohn'ahra

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide9

Next, talk to Tithris to receive a note about an idol. Go to the Eternal Kurgans in Ohn'ahran Plains. Enter the burial mounds in the order depicted in the image above. Make sure to have the Torch of Pyrreth equipped so that you can see the braziers. You must activate the first three in order to see the fourth one which is in the burial mound located in Teerakai. Upon finding the fourth brazier, the Idol of Ohn'ahra will appear to the right. Take it to start another quest and then speak with Preservationist Kathos.

Use the Idol of Ohn'ahra and it will begin to shoot a beam of energy toward the location of one of the three gems you need to find. All three of them are in the plaza at the bottom of the stairs that lead into the Seat of the Aspects.

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide10

After turning in this quest, another quest will become available from Preservationist Kathos. Take the quest "Into the Sands". For this quest, you will be using the Idol of Ohn'ahra in the Shifting Sands which is located in the southern corner of Thaldraszus. Just like with the previous quest, you will need to use the Idol of Ohn'ahra to find Time-Lost Fragments. After obtaining three, use them to combine them into an incomplete tablet. Take this tablet to Preservationist Kathos.

The Titan Key Mold

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide11

After turning in the tablet, talk to Bobby Carlisle and pick up the quest "A Key Story". To progress this quest, talk to Weaponsmith Koref in The Obsidian Enclave. To investigate the lead about the Titan Key Mold further, go to Cloverwood Hollow in Ohn'ahran Plains. Inside the ruined building, equip the Torch of Pyrreth to reveal a note that gives the coordinates. Equip the Thinking Cap and move to the right until the coordinates read: (-3, -2). Hidden in the vegetation will be a mold that you can interact with. Pick up the item to start a quest and then take the mold to Weaponsmith Koref.

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide12

Once this is finished, the next quest is "Reforging a Legend" which can be picked up by talking to Bobby Carlisle. Go back to Weaponsmith Koref to receive a list of materials needed to forge the key. The ingredients needed are 50 Rose Gold Dust and eight Igneous Flux. Rose Gold Dust can be found along the Overflowing Rapids by using the Idol of Ohn'ahra. Keep a close eye on the idol and move in the direction it points in.

Rose Gold Dust is found by looting Dusty Red Pellets which look like small red pebbles. They don't glow like other items in WoW, making them easy to miss.

The Igneous Flux is found south of Obsidian Citadel on the shoreline where the lava meets the ocean. Equip the Idol of Ohn'ahra and look for small piles of gray dust. Loot them to obtain Igneous Flux.

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide13

Once you have obtained all the materials, go to the area depicted in the image above to find Weaponsmith Koref. He will have a new quest available. Take the quest, equip your Torch of Pyrreth, and then speak to Weaponsmith Koref again. Upon completing this quest, you obtain Tyr's Titan Key as an Off-hand apperance.

Return the Burial Banner

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide14

Talk to Preservationist Kathos to receive the Maruuk Burial Banner. Your next task is to return it to its rightful place. To start, go to Maruukai in Ohn'ahran Plains. Talk to Sansok Khan and select the dialogue option for showing the banner. Next, head southwest toward Pinewood Post. Talk to the Inkeeper, Jhara, and select the dialogue option about following in the steps of Ishtaar Rethon. She gives you a map that leads to the first location where a clue can be found.

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide15

While you can follow this trail, here is where to go to place the banner. Go to the Dreadsnare Caverns. The location is depicted in the image above. In this cave, there will be a spot where you can place the banner and complete th quest.

Go to Karazhan

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide16

To continue this series of quests, speak with Bobby Carlisle and pick up the quest "A Special Book". For this quest, you will have to leave the Dragon Isles and go to Karazhan in the Deadwind Pass. Make sure to go through the front entrance to Karazhan, as this next step can only be done in the old 10-man raid and not the five-man dungeon from Legion.

Progress through the raid all the way up to the library that is past the Curator. Once in this library, use the Idol of Ohn'ahra and use it to search the bookshelves. There will be four books that the Idol will point to, but only one of them is the right book while all of the others just give more hints as to where the book is. Once you have the book, return to Bobby Carlisle.

A Suspect

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide17

Bobby Carlisle will have one more quest available, "They Are Always Listening". Accept this quest and talk to Fangli Hoot. She has a new suspect, but she needs help gathering evidence. The evidence can be found in the following locations. The Idol of Ohn'ahra will help point them out.

  1. On a barrel in the Valdrakken Auction House.
  2. In a building near the Sapphire Enclave. You will know you are in the right place when you see two NPCs called "Quarreling Gardener".
  3. On a crate in the hidden bar in the Roasted Ram.
  4. In the building with the Transmogrification vendor in the Emerald Enclave.
  5. Behind the General Goods tent in the Artisan's Market.
  6. In the building with the Item Upgrades and Flightstone Donations vendor.

Upon finding all six notes, you will begin a new quest. Speak with Fangli Hoot to turn it in.

A Sphere in Danger

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide18

Return to the Roasted Ram and talk to Tithris whom will offer you a new quest called "A Sphere in Danger". Read the note and then go southeast toward Stormshroud Peak which is circled in the image above.

Up on the Stormshroud Peak, there are several caves. Equip your Torch of Pyrreth and search for tablets that it will reveal. The tablets will give coordinates for the Thinking Cap. At the coordinates, you will find a mound of dirt that contains an orb fragment. The locations of the tablets and the orbs are depicted on the map below. Even with the coordinates for the orb fragments, you will still need to find the tablets so keep that in mind.

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide19

Once you have found all three orb fragments, combine them to begin a new quest. Take the newly assembled orb back to Tithris in the Roasted Ram to complete the quest.

A Treacherous Race

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide20

Once you are there, equip the Torch of Pyrreth approach each of the eight statues around the area that are holding an orb. Once you are close enough to a statue, your Torch of Pyrreth will begin to activate the orb the statue is holding. Wait until the orb is on fire before you move on to the next statue. You will see an emote in your chat window when you have activated all eight orbs.

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide21

From there, enter the forge of Tyrhold and approach the large face on the wall. This will give you a buff that makes all enemies within the lower floors of Tyrhold frienldy to you for one hour. Equip the Idol of Ohn'ahra and search the small circular side rooms.

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide22

The idol will point to pottery shards on the ground which will contain one of six items you will need. The six items you need to find are: Titan Cube Housing, Titan Energy Core, two Titan Block Key Fragments, Titan Focusing Crystal, and Large Titan Capacitor. There are several floors to search, so be thorough.

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide23

After gathering all of these items, fly back up to the outside parts of Tyrhold. Look for the four towers around the forge with the pillars of light. Each tower has a console inside where you can insert the items. Once you've done this, fly up to the top of Tyrhold where the throne is. You will be able to pick up a new quest from the terminal there. Interact with the glowing sphere and then get ready for a fight.

wow-secrets-of-azeroth-guide24

Tithris and Amerinth don't hit particularly hard, but you'll want to make sure to stay out of the circles that apppear when they attack. Once you kill both of them and then loot them, take the Orb of Rathmus back up to the glowing outline on the console. Pick up the orb again and a chest will appear right next to it. Loot the chest and then turn in the quest to receive the final set of rewards from the Secrets of Azeroth questline: a mount and a title.
