Highlights

  • Shiekrunner set a new record in WoW for fastest power leveling by using teamwork and dungeon skips.
  • The Mists of Pandaria Remix event provided increased leveling potential for speedrunners.
  • Using macros, XP items, and the Cloak of Infinite Potential, Shiekrunner reached max level in 48 minutes.

One World of Warcraft fan went from level 10 to 70 in just over 48 minutes, breaking the world record for the fastest race to max level. This incredible feat was made possible due to a combination of teamwork, classic World of Warcraft dungeon skips, and the increased leveling potential in the Mists of Pandaria Remix event.

Though speedruns, races to world first, and power leveling have been in World of Warcraft for as long as the game has existed, WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria is a playground for these kinds of fans. For example, one WoW player completed the Temple of the Jade Serpent in 50 seconds, only for another fan to clear it in less than 30 seconds a few days later.

World of Warcraft Makes Massive Change to Cloak of Infinite Potential

In the most recent hotfix for Mists of Pandaria Remix, World of Warcraft has made a huge, undocumented change to the Cloak of Infinite Potential.

Now, famous World of Warcraft speedrunner Shiekrunner has set a new record for power leveling in WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria. Over the course of 48 minutes and 30 seconds, Shiekrunner hit max level with the help of a team of nine players from the Tatortreiniger guild, who downed dungeon and raid bosses, clearing the way for Shiekrunner’s Demon Hunter, fittingly named Worldrecord, to loot the XP. Through a combination of macros, hoarded experience items, and bonus XP gains from the Cloak of Infinite Potential, Shiekrunner was able to quickly level up, even dinging 14 times in a row at the 29-minute mark in his progress video.

Shiekrunner's WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria Speedrun

  • Looted XP from dungeon and raid bosses that were pre-cleared by fully-geared allies.
  • Used raid and dungeon skips found in certain World of Warcraft instances.
  • Hoarded random Heroic bonus XP until optimal experience boosts were acquired.
  • Used new characters to ensure only fast dungeons pop in the random queue.
  • Utilized macros that auto-complete finished quests from the quest log.

Of course, this power leveling journey heavily relied on using old dungeon and raid skips that allow players to clip through walls and the like, and was only possible because he had a team of allies to defeat enemies for him. While some players might look down on using such methods, and the fact that Shiekrunner was “carried” to max level by others, the coordination and mastery of deploying these techniques is an incredible feat on its own.

This is far from the first speedrun Shiekrunner has done. He’s leveled from 1-70 in WoW: Dragonflight in 90 minutes, and has broken dungeons and discovered skips in raids across World of Warcraft’s history. While he is primarily a WoW speedrunner, he has dabbled in other games as well, such as Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Amok.

WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria runs until August 19, meaning players have almost three more months to discover more ways to break the game. Fans shouldn’t be surprised if speedrunners discover even faster ways to level and clear content during the limited-time event, and maybe even beat Shiekrunner’s new world record.
