A World of Warcraft players just showed their collection of unopened WoW Game Fuel Mountain Dew bottles. This pair of nostalgic beverages are from a World of Warcraft promotion held over 14 years ago.

Mountain Dew is considered by many to be the unofficial beverage of gaming. This is in no small part due to its multiple collaborations with video games over the years, including one with World of Warcraft in August 2009, where Mountain Dew sold blue Wild Fruit Alliance and red Citrus Cherry Horde flavored sodas during the Wrath of the Lich King era.

World of Warcraft introduces a new feature in Patch 10.2, Guardians of the Dream, that will make questing across Azeroth much easier.

Now, Redditor JackEster97 has shown off their impressive collection of World of Warcraft artifacts from the old promotion. The image shows bottles of both the Alliance and Horde beverages, which they said were preserved unopened in their family’s china cabinet because they had all played at the time. The bottles themselves are naturally dented from going flat over the 14 long years, proving they are authentic, original, and unopened.

The World of Warcraft Mountain Dew collaboration took place long ago enough that some players may not even have known it existed. Called the Choose Your Side promotion, the crossover involved giveaway sweepstakes, and even a hilarious World of Warcraft commercial featuring a terrible CGI brawl between an Orc and a Night Elf in a supermarket.

Fans were sent all the way back to 2009 by JackEster97’s post. Many players shared their own fond memories of the World of Warcraft promotion, with some even claiming they had still had bottles or cans of their own. Others admitted they had sold theirs over the years, considering unopened cans sell for $20 to $30 each, and bottles for upwards of $100, on sites like eBay.

Interestingly enough, Mountain Dew Game Fuel is making its triumphant return soon. On November 6, Mountain Dew is collaborating with Halo Infinite and Diablo 4, featuring a Citrus Cherry drink with Master Chief and a Mystic Punch flavor with Lilith respectively. These new runs of Mountain Dew Game Fuel are the first new game collaboration it has had since 2017. With one a rerun of a previous collaboration, and another a promotion featuring another Blizzard game, it is technically possible World of Warcraft could eventually re-release the Choose Your Side Mountain Dew flavors again some day. Even if it did, however, original bottles like JackEster97’s would continue to be valuable collector’s items, and could possibly even increase in value.

World of Warcraft is available now on PC.
